Last Week: Taper Time
- Monday – Recovering from yesterday’s half marathon. Actually, everything felt great but better safe than sorry.
- Tuesday – Another work travel day. This week, I was back in Rochester, NY. It’s a long drive but there are two choices of places to run – along Lake Ontario or along the Erie Canal. I was ready to run at 2 pm but my co-worker asked me to help him set up and we couldn’t start until 4:30. Grrrrrr! So I chose Lake Ontario and found some cool trails across the street. But I had to cut it short to get back to check into my hotel.
- Wednesday -I got in one more run along the canal before the drive home.
- Thursday – Today I reunited with Alyssa for a run. We decided to run on the Corning Bike Path.
- Friday – Rest day and evening out with the mah jongg ladies.
- Saturday – Today I ran the Helper’s Fund 10k in Chestertown, NY. It was warm but not as humid as last weekend. I ran the whole race with another runner who forced me to take it slow. It was a nice small race and I had a course PR and even won my age group.
After the race, I took two hikes on nearby mountains and visited a friend who lived nearby.
- Sunday – Boating Sunday. And a beautiful day it was and the hottest day of the summer so far and it’s fall LOL. I spent most of the day floating on the water.
18.2 miles done.
This Week: Race Week
- Monday – 3-4 mile run with Laurie
- Tuesday – rest day, tennis
- Wednesday – 4 mile run with Alyssa
- Thursday – rest day or 3 mile run before dinner out with the tennis ladies
- Friday – day off (early morning 3 mile run if not done the day before) and drive to Corning, NY
- Saturday – rest day, Corning, NY for the expo & carb- loading with running friends

Happy Running! How is your running going? What’s new with you? Please share.
I wouldn’t call a 10k (which can’t be that slow if you won your AG) and then 6 miles of hiking exactly taking it easy, either. But Sunday, yes!

Um. I was the only one in my AG LOL. But it was very hilly and I walked several times during the 2nd half. I was happy with my time – definitely a confidence booster for our upcoming half.
The hikes were easy. I planned on running 2-4 more miles after the race but it was too damn hot and the hikes were shady.

You’ve got to be in it to win it. 🙂

Exactly. It means you don’t have to be fast to win an age group award. You just have to enter small races 🙂

I’ve done small races. Still no AG awards. I’d only win one if I was the only one in my AG! I’m faster, I’m not fast. Not at all.

It’s your age. You’re too young. If you were older, you would win at your speed.

Except when I get older I still think there will be plenty of speedy runners my age.

So true. There are plenty of faster runners who are my age and older. It depends on who shows up.

It’s amazing how, once you’re in shape, hiking is an easy add on to your fitness routine. Back in the day hiking used to do me in, not only for that day but for days afterward. I love how well-rounded you are with your fitness activities!

I was not much of a hiker before running but yes, you are right. Hiking felt easier.
I’m just trying to stay young. Thanks for the continued support.

I hope so because it doesn’t get warm again here until June at the earliest.

You ran slow and won your age group? How does that happen?! I had business trips to Rochester back in the days before I was a runner – looks like I missed out on some great runs.

Small race. Only one in my age group lol.
I know. I used travel to conferences around the country before I was a runner. I missed out big time!!!

How awesome to get a course PR when you aren’t really trying …those are the sweetest wins! It may still be hot there but in one of those pictures (Corning Bike Trail) I saw some beautiful fall colored trees! Good luck next weekend at the Wineglass and have fun!

Nice job on the 10k race! I’m glad you were able to squeeze in another trip to the lake before it gets cold. I’ve had yet to do that (EEK). Good luck at the half marathon this weekend and have fun with the ladies! Thanks for linking.
