Loving/Not Loving

Loving that ABC shows are back on.  I was missing Revenge, Nashville and Grey’s Anatomy.

Matthew or Jackson????

Not Loving that the Olympics are over.  I loved watching the athletes’ commitment and enthusiasm.

Loving that there is more daylight each day.

Not Loving that the temps are still cold and there is snow everywhere.

Not Loving that it rained yesterday and was cool.  Forecast is for cloudy and cooler today. Hope the weather improves.

Happy Running! What are you loving or not loving right now?

What I am Enjoying Now

1. SUNSHINE

20140209-143013.jpg

Yes, it was cold… I waited until it warmed up to the 20s and the sun was shining.

20140209-143023.jpg

I headed to the Corning Bike Path because I heard that it was clear.

20140209-143002.jpg

And it was except for a few icy patches.

20140209-142930.jpg

Although my long run was crappy (I walked a lot, my on and off  bunion pain came back), I extended my planned 8 mile run to 10 miles.

It is supposed to cloud up and snow a little, then get colder.  What else is new?

2.  The OLYMPICS

I love the Olympics.  I am not a TV watcher but for the next 2 weeks, I will be glued to the TV.

Sage Kotsenburg winning Gold

It’s not that I ski or snowboard or ice skate.  I don’t do any winter sports.

Meryl Davis and Charlie White helping US win bronze

Figure skating is my favorite. But I enjoy watching everything.

And finally, I’ve traveled to Russia 3 times and I love the culture and its people.

Me and the Treadmill

I do NOT look like this!

I do NOT look like this!

I saw this on Run with Jess’ blog last week (she got it from Marcia’s Healthy Slice) and couldn’t resist answering.

I don’t own a (working) treadmill and I don’t belong to a gym. There is one where I work behind the curtains on the stage in the gym.  No windows, dark, dreary….

I really hate the treadmill.  But I use it when I have no choice:

  • raining outside
  • no time after work (and I squeeze it in during lunch)
  • after a broken bone, when I am only allowed to run on the TM

That being said, here are my answers:

1. What’s your favorite workout to do on a treadmill?

I use a basic slow speed and when I am bored, I pick up the speed for awhile and then slow down.

2. How many miles, on average, do you run on the mill each week?

Usually 0-3.  Sometimes  up to 4. It depends how much time I have.

3. What was the most mileage you’ve ever completed on the mill in one workout? When? Why?

I think a few years ago, I did 6.  It was on the weekend and I needed to do a longer run.

4. Do you mill at home, the gym or both?

At work. It’s convenient.  No one else uses it.  If I didn’t have one at work, I would buy one.

5. What distractions or entertainment (if any) do you use to help pass the time?

I always watch TV shows on my iPad.

6. If you have a treadmill at home, what kind is it? How old is it?

I have an old non-working one.

7. Do you fuel any differently for a treadmill workout than an outside one?

I drink more water.  It is easy to reach and I get thirstier

8. Any treadmill mishaps to report?

Not yet.

9. Do you mill at incline to compensate for not being outside?

Nope.

10. Describe your perfect (if there is such an animal) treadmill conditions:

Not too warm.  A window with a view of the ocean. A large tv with one of my favorite shows on (and no commercials.)

The Good Wife is on the screen probably

Happy Running!  Do you run on the treadmill?  Feel free to share any answers to the questions above.

Currently

Currently

Being off from work for more than a weekend is very strange for me. I am not used to having so much free time and yet, not getting things done.

Watching: TVs shows on my iPad.  I have to catch on missed episodes of my favorite shows – The Good Wife, Revenge, Grey’s Anatomy and Nashville

Reading: The Orphan Train. A friend recommended it and so far it is very good.

Listening: Pandora.  I usually only listen to music in the car and my drive to work is very short.  I love listening to oldies – Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Jim Croce, Jackson Browne, Carole King, etc.

Making: Socks.  I have the wool so but I kinda have lost interest in knitting.  It reminds me of the time I knit because I couldn’t do anything else.

Feeling: Relaxed and rested.

Planning: Dinner.  Not working makes me feel guilty about not cooking dinner for my hubby. When I am working, I don’t have the time.  No excuse today.

Loving: Being able to run at any time of the day I want.  I can run in the daylight and can wait until the weather improves. I can run as far as I want and where I want. Unfortunately, this only happens once a year.

Happy Running! What’s on your ‘Currently’ list?

My 16 Day Staycation

Starting today, I am off until January 6, 2014!

Usually when I take time off from work, it is to go somewhere.

But for this vacation, I am staying home. (Although going to a warmer climate where there is a beach does sound tempting.)

And I have nothing to do except:

  • Run – whenever I want
20131130-133413.jpg

wait until the sun comes out

  • Catch up with friends

  • Shop for bargains

  • Watch TV

have to catch up on the last few episodes of my favorite show

  • Read

hope to read this among many others

  • Knit
DSC03061

I haven’t done any since last Christmas vacation

  • Go to the Movies

maybe this one or Secret Life of Walter Mitty

I will do a lot of the above but I really should do grocery shopping, laundry, cooking, cleaning, re-organizing…

Then I won’t mind going back to work!!! Ha Ha!

Happy Running! Do you have time off for the holidays? If so, what are you going to do with your free time?

What I’m Watching Wednesday

wiaww

I’m still reading the same books as last post so I thought I’d switch it up.

I’m not a big TV watcher.  I never seem to have the time.  I watch the Today show while I eat breakfast and then after work, it’s either running, tennis, yoga, meet up with friends, etc.

So my TV watching is usually on my iPad when I’m home in the evening/weekends or while I’m on the treadmill (on rainy days.)

Here are the shows on my must-watch list every week:

nashville

“A fading country music star comes into conflict with a rising teen star.” Deacon is “hot” and Rayna’s 2 daughters are adorable.  This is season 2. I’m addicted.

revenge

“The daughter of a framed executive makes it her mission to infiltrate upper Hamptons society and exact revenge on the people who set her father up”.  Now in Season 3.  What is cool is that the first episode is each season starts with the cliff hanger ending of that season (usually a murder.)

greys

A drama centered on the personal and professional lives of surgical interns and their supervisors.”  Yeah, the ninth season and most of the main characters have died but McDreamy is still on…  and I still watch.

tgw

“Alicia has been a good wife to her husband, a former state attorney. After a very humiliating sex and corruption scandal, he is behind bars. She must now provide for her family and returns to work as a litigator in a law firm.” Definitely my favorite show of the week. I have always enjoyed law dramas.  I love all the characters in this show!! Each season gets better.

and when the new episodes start:

midwife

The story is about a group of midwives based in East London in the 1950s.” Season 3 will be starting.  If you start to watch it, you will really get drawn to main characters. I did.

da

Beginning in the years leading up to World War I, the drama centers on the Crawley family and their servants.” I can’t wait for season 4 to begin. I resisted for a few years but then once I started watching, I knew why most people love the show.

I used to watch quite a few CW shows – OC, Gossip Girl, 90210, Emily Owens MD, Eastwood, One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls. 7th Heaven.  But they’re all off the air and I have not started watching any of the new ones.

I know there are a lot of other good shows on the air.  I don’t have Showtime or HBO and not a lot of time.

Happy Running!  Any TV show that you think I MUST add to my list?
