Thanks Steve Jobs

My first computer use was on a Mac.  I used Macs for many years.  Unfortunately,  finances forced me to buy a PC when I needed a laptop for grad school.  A career switch from teaching to IT also changed my computer use from a MAC to a PC, as well.

However, for running, I am eternally grateful to Steve Jobs.

my iPod Touch

The iPod Touch has made running on the treadmill possible.  I download my favorites shows such as The Good Wife and Fairly Legal and watch them while I run to keep me sane on the treadmill.

my iPod nano

When I first started running, I bought this nano off my friend’s daughter and used it with the Nike+ chip on my shoe to tracks my miles as well as listen to music.  I used it for several years and right up to my first half marathon in January 2011 (when I bought a Garmin) to keep track of distance and pace.

my iPod shuffle

Now that I use a Garmin to keep track of mileage and pace, I use this shuffle to listen to music when I run outdoors.  I won it in a blog giveaway and I love it because of its size.  It clips onto my shorts or fits into a key pocket.

the phone in my future

No, I don’t have a iPhone (yet).  I bought a new phone last December before I found out that Verizon would be offering an iphone.  So now I have to wait…. The iPhone would be perfect for running since I like to take photos when I run.  If I carry a camera, then I don’t have room to carry a phone.  If I carry a phone, then I don’t have room to carry a camera.  The  iPhone would allow to me to have both options in one device!! (Actually it could even replace my iPod touch & shuffle if I store videos & music on it.)

on my wish list

I don’t have a personal laptop.  I have one for work (which occasionally I bring home.) It is heavy so a iPad would be great to have to surf the Internet and update my blog and facebook posts when I am away from my desk.  It also would be even better for watching TV while on the treadmill.  Will I see an Ipad2 under my Christmas tree??

Happy Running!  Do you use  an ipod or iphone when you run?

Warning – there are lots of photos on this page.

First on Wednesday, our Komen Race for the Cure team which has almost 70 runners on it was interviewed for the TV news.

I did run 3 miles on Tuesday & Wednesday.  The runs were not great but my training runs never are.  They were slow (12 min pace) with frequent walking…will I ever be fast???

Anyway, I am excited for Saturday’s race.  It is always such an emotional event. (Unfortunately, it’s supposed to RAIN!!)

Next, the official Adirondack Half Marathon photos (why do my thighs look huge or maybe they are & I should wear capris?) are out.

looks like I'm having fun

Happy Running! Have a nice weekend & Good Luck if you are racing!

Boating & My Running Mojo

The Boating season is winding down and the Running season is gearing up.

Although I am running again, the heel pain still persists.  Not so much while I am running but before & after.  This fact allows me to run but makes me be very cautious when I run.   It also makes me sad as I cross off races from my calendar 😦  But at least I AM RUNNING!

The sunshine came out finally on Friday after a week of rain.  After work, I had to choose between my weekly Mah Jongg game (which I LOVE)  or a longish run.

Yes, my Running Mojo is back – I ran 5 miles around the park.  I hadn’t run there since Mother’s Day when the park boasted thousands of beautiful tulips.  I was surprised at how nicely it was landscaped & wished I had brought my camera.

Saturday, we headed up to Bolton Landing to spend the weekend on Lake George.  It wasn’t going to be warm but it was going to be dry!!

We spend the day with lots of boating friends at a new spot – near the Ranger Station on Long Island. We didn’t swim but had lots of fun!!

In the evening we headed to the village to watch the Car Show parade (There were thousands of vintage cars on display this weekend) and fireworks.  I could care less about the cars but the guys were in their glory oohing and aahing.

Afterwards we battled the traffic & returned to the marina to sleep on the boat.  Mind you it was 53 degrees & I could have sleep at 3 different friends’ houses in Lake George village.  Well, you know why I returned to the boat.

Sunday morning, I woke up early to go on a long run.  Long run for me is only 7 miles but I knew it still would be a challenge.

I wanted to take a new route as I always run around the Sagamore hotel.  I decided to run south on  9N. It was a little chilly so I put on a  jacket (Big mistake, I was warm in 5 min) and took along my camera.

photo stop on Huddle Bay

I ran the rolling hills for a few miles.

When I passed a cemetery, I decided to take a detour toward the lake. Boy am I glad I did!

road less travelled by

lst sign of fall

I stumbled into roads in all directions with awesome houses, tennis courts, new home construction, cottages, beautiful lake views.

Another road brought me to the Rainbow Association (lots of camps, docks, beach, etc.)

this is a cute one

Finally after probably getting photographed in many surveillance videos, it was time to head back to the marina.

In Bolton Landing, I had my own mini car show.

I got back just in time to go out on our boat with friends.

several painful runs

Yes, I said “painful.”

I have been  in denial for 3 weeks.   I have been running slow and walking hoping that the pain in my heel is just in my mind.

This is the first week of my Half Marathon training!  OUCH!!

Today I decided that I wouldn’t run until I saw a doctor.  The decision was the easy part.  I started calling podiatrists & orthopedists.  It started with the first appointment for a new patient being in September.  I said “Not possible.  I am a runner! ”  Then it was in August, then at the end of the month, then next week.  I made appts with each one hoping to get an earlier one.

Finally, I got one for this Friday!!!  Then of course, I had to call and cancel ALL the other appts.

So we’ll see.  It doesn’t hurt now!  I only hurts when I run 😦

So the worst would be that I WALK this half marathon.  I can do that in 5 hours, right?

It’s too early to worry about Half Marathon #4 on Nov 6 (and non-refundable plane tix to LA)!!!  My heel will heal!!!!

Happy Running!

Holding My Breath

I’m the one in the GREEN shirt!!

This was taken at my last race.  I hope it is not my LAST race.

Today is Day 2 of not running and “holding my breath.”

Tomorrow we’re going up to Lake George for the weekend.  That should cheer me up!!

I’m going to try running again on Sunday! Wish me luck!

Happy Running! Enjoy your weekend!

Wordless Wednesday

I like this picture because:

  • I remember how HAPPY I was to be done.
  • I didn’t wear my Garmin and it seemed like more than 3 hours but I finished 6 minutes FASTER than my first HM.
  • My feet are IN THE AIR so I must have been running fast at the end.
  • My hands and feet were so COLD and WET.  That may be PAIN on my face not JOY!!

Happy Running! Do you have photos like this?

How do you motivate yourself when it doesn’t count?  Or does it matter?

Happy Running!

As promised, here are some photos from my wonderful vacation in Naples, Florida:

Now that vacation is over, I’m back to running!

3.5 mile race last night and a 5k race on Sunday.

Next half marathon training does not start until July 4 but I have to decide whether or not I am going to do the 10 miler on June 26.  If so, I need to start running more than 3 miles!!

Happy Running!  Good luck on any races you are doing this weekend!

Happy Running! Hope you are enjoying good weather!

I don’t know how he gets up there.  I know my hubby secretly lets him in the bedroom or bathroom window (as well as one other cat).  I am trying to train him to get down by himself.  And he did! Who knows how?? ( I have 5 cats but only 2 climb on the roof when they want to come in.)

This morning was also another treadmill day – 3 miles and one episode of  “The Good Wife.”

Tonight is Mah Jongg nite!! I won 4 times last time and I’m still resting on my laurels!

Happy Running!
