FFF: 5 Things to Never Do in the Gym

Today’s Topic is: Five Things You Should Never Do in the Gym

1.Hogging a Machine by being on your Phone

This really bugs me because I have limited time there. I don’t want to wait for a machine when someone is just catching up on social media.

2.Talking Loudly to Others

Again the gym for working out not for chatting with your friends.  Meet for coffee after for that. Plus, I’m don’t wait to hear the details of your life.

3.Leaving a Machine with your Sweat.

Yes, gross. There are towels nearby so wipe it off when you’re done.

4. Coughing/Sneezing and Not Wearing a Mask.

It’s not just about catching COVID or the Flu  (I’ve had all the latest vaccines) but I don’t want to catch a cold either.

5. Walking Two A Breast on the Track.

Again, this happens because people want to chat while they’re walking. See #2. But they are not paying attention and walking SLOW.

I had to go around them 45 times last Saturday!!

Yes, I can walk around you but it’s hard because the other lane is for runners.

Happy Running! What are some things you should never do in the gym? Please share.

FFF: 5 Things to Accomplish in 2024

The Hit List - 24 Things To Do in 2024 - The Tarot Lady

Today’s Topic is: Five Things You Want to Accomplish This Year

1.Recover From My Current Injury

IOW, be able to run well enough to race….

H2H 2022

Patience is not my virtue… so we’ll see how things go.

2. Work Out in the Gym Several Times A Week

at the YMCA

I don’t enjoy it but I know it’s good for me.

3. Not Get Injured Again

Injuries suck.. both mentally and physically.

Do I need to bubble wrap myself?

4. Run a Sub 27:00 Brooklyn Half Marathon

2023 race (in the rain) and post broken foot.

Pride?

Yes, but more importantly, it allows me the flexibility to run the NYC and Brooklyn Half Marathons in 2025 as well as the NYC full marathon (if I so choose.)

5. Complete My 3rd NYC Marathon

and actually enjoy it.

as I did in 2019…

Happy Running! What are 5 things that you want to accomplish this year? Please share.

Runfessions for December ’23

It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice

…the last one for 2023!!

1.I runfess…

I really enjoyed running in a warmer climate.  Yes, I had to race slower but it was so nice not to wear layers.

FOMO, Florida runners.

2. I runfess…

Of course, I was disappointed that I was not acclimated enough to the humidity to run faster.

I was expecting a slower time but not this slow:

3. I runfess…

I had a qualifying time for the Brooklyn Half Marathon in May so I signed up.

I’m hoping third time is a charm.

IOW, it does not rain hard the whole race (like 2018 & 2023) and I can actually stay and visit Coney Island.

4. I runfess…

I don’t really like downtime.  I enjoy a routine – 3 weekday runs and 1 long run. Training for a big race! (Of course, that’s when I’m not injured!!!)

However, my next half marathon was not until Feb, 18!

and I ran 8 miles – just because

In hindsight, I’m glad I pushed myself (as it will be my last long run for awhile).

5. I runfess…

Being injured really sucks (as I know you all know).

I am relieved that it’s winter (and gray and rainy for the most part.)

My next race is Feb 18 (in Fla) and my big race in NYC is on March 17.

Fingers crossed, my ankle heals in time (though at this point, I’m thinking that I may not be ready for a half marathon until April. Sigh.)

I guess I’ll being spending more time at the gym and on my stationary bike than I planned.

Happy Running! Anything to runfess this month? Please share.

FFF: Five Fitness Goals for 2024

Today’s Topic is: Five Fitness Goals for 2024

1.Run 1000 Miles for the Year.

It’s not the number that is important but it means that I’ve run consistently and haven’t been injured or sick.

2022 (not 2023)

2. Continue gym workouts (or find another outlet).

I started going last March (for free) and then officially joined in July.

Being honest, I don’t enjoy working out but everyone seems to think it is important.

So I will give another shot this year.

3. Vary my runs. Do some “drills.”

I’m a creature of habit or I am almost always pressed for time.

I just run.  No watch. No speedwork. No hill repeats.

As I age, this could possibly give me some speed back.

Ladder Track Workout

4. Complete the NYC Marathon for the 3rd time.

Third time is a charm?

No.

But 4 of my local friends are running it and

I need redemption, they say.

Hopefully I can end my marathon racing on a good note.

5.Continue on toward my half marathon goal (75 before 75).

The Finger Lakes Half Marathon in September was my 65th half marathon.

Too bad I DNSed 3 last winter. And ran 0 in 2012.

At one point I was hoping to run 100 Half Marathons…

Here’s to good health (or feet/legs) and hoping…

Happy Running! What are your fitness goals for next year?

FFF: Five Favorite Fitness Moments of 2023

Today’s Topic is: Five Favorite Fitness Moments For This Year

1.My Second Marathon

Was it as much fun as in 2019 when I ran my first?

No, because that year, I shared the racing experience with two bloggers, Lacey and Cari, who also ran the race. And it my FIRST!!

But it was still a memorable achievement and I was lucky to have my running friends there for moral support this time around.

2.My Girls Race-cation

As always we had a blast.  The weather wasn’t ideal but it didn’t seem to dampen our spirits as we had good meals, ran a race, visited the Glass Museum and saw 19 waterfalls at Watkins Glen.

3.My Tennis Vacation

I went to Naples, Fla in May to play tennis with my friends as I have done every year since 2005. Like with my running friends, it also included laughter, good food and on this trip, theater and beach time.

4. Hikes with Running Friends

Our local running club sponsors them in the summer on Thursday evenings and a few of us also go on my Mondays off.

5. Hot Chocolate Race

Back in 2019, we had so much fun running this race in Brooklyn but then they discontinued it.

Luckily it is still scheduled in Tampa, Fla not far from where one of our running friends winters.

Happy Running! What are your favorite fitness moment(s) from 2023?

TT: Holiday Gift Guide for Runners

The Topic this week is: Holiday Gifts

When your spouse, family members or friends ask what you want for the holidays, here are FIVE things that you could tell them:

1.A Gift card for Running Shoes

Even if you are not racing a lot, it doesn’t mean that new shoes won’t spice up your runs.

2.Sunglasses

If you’re like me, you always either lose them or break them.

Goodr Sunglasses - The OGs - Find Your Feet Australia

Goodrs are my favorites

3.Socks

Yes, I often lose one and only my good ones.

Image result for balega socks

4.A Massage Gun

You don’t need a name brand (like Theragun).  There are many out there that are inexpensive.  I have a cheap one and it works great!

addsfit MAX massage gun

5.A new GPS Watch

I still prefer my old Garmin 205 LOL but I caved a few years ago and got the 230.

There are even newer and more expensive ones that give you all kinds of data.

On Friday, I will post ideas for stocking stuffers.

Happy Running!  Are any of these on your list? What else would you like? Please share.

There is a link-up organized by Zenaida and Kim (Kooky Runner).

FFF: Ultimate Coffee Date for December ’23

It’s that time of the month…

time to join up with Coco & Deborah for their ultimate coffee date.

1.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that it’s a good thing that I have a large skirt collection.  As you may know Skirt Sports is no more.

I am grateful for my years as an Ambassador (since 2015) because it brought some wonderful people into my life.

with my NYC buddy, Elizabeth

Will I stop wearing skirts?

Never!

I’m not the only one in my area who wears them either.

2. Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I was a loyal Topos shoe wearer.  It seemed to cure my neuroma pain.

But now Altra makes a shoe with a 4mm heel drop and a wide toe box.

I may be a convert.

AltraFWD Experience

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that once I decided that I liked the Altras, Topos came out with a new shoe…

Topo Athletic Atmos

Hmmm?

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that nothing cures racing depression than running another race.

So glad that I had signed up for one of our local turkey trots.

racing is about challenging yourself and running with others…

5.Over coffee…

Speaking of races, I’d tell you that next week, I’m off on my last race-cation of 2023.  This one destination is new to me – Tampa, Florida.  I’ve never been.

The mug at the top is a clue to what race I’ll be running.

Happy Running! What’s new with you?  Please share.

FFF: Runfessions for November 2023

First Runfessions of Fall

It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice

top 10 running memes blog 11 (544x325)

Sorry, But I still got the NYC Marathon blues…

um… no I didn’t buy any of the 190 pix they took of me!!

  • I runfess…

I am struggling with many mixed emotions regarding my marathon.

Proud. Yes, I did finish 26.2 miles.

Depressed. Yes. I didn’t train so I could walk most of the 26.2 miles.

  • I runfess…

I am not disappointed with my finish time.  Who knew I could walk that fast?

  • I runfess…

I have no idea what caused my calf cramps.

Dehydration? Too fast a walk pace? The screws/plate in my ankle?

I want to know since I never want to experience that pain again in a race.

years being GIF

  •  I runfess…

I thought I was tough.

I’ve run on a broken foot and with a stress fracture.

For the first time ever, I seriously thought about quitting during a race…

glad I didn’t see this guy. LOL

  • I runfess…

I’ve run hundreds of races which includes 66 half marathons.

Yet, this one race really deflated me.

I may have even said “I’m never running again!”

top 10 running memes blog 2 (468x482)

  • I runfess…

I time qualified for the NYC Marathon again in 2024 (thanks to the rainy 2023 Brooklyn Half).

Do I do it again as redemption?  So not to end marathon racing on such a bad note?

I have from February 21 until March 21, 2024 to decide…

Happy Running! Anything to runfess this month? Please share.

FFF: Things Learned From My Second Marathon

My Topic today is: Five Things I Learned From My Second Marathon

1.You have to run your own race.

Looking back, my downfall was meeting up with friends at mile 8 and joining them in their run/walk intervals.

Their run pace was too fast and their walk pace killed me.

Or should I say “my calf.”

In the end, I did my own thing (but it was too late and the damage was done.)

2.I can do hard things.

Not just running 26.2 miles.

But WALKING most of the last 16 miles!!!

I really wasn’t sure I could do it. I have never walked more than a few miles.

I give credit to those spectators and volunteers who offered support the whole way.

3.It was harder than the first one.

I think that I expected it to be easier.

I trained better.

I was familiar with the race logistics and the course.

As they say, “anything can happen on race day.”

4. I have awesome friends.

Not only did they travel to NYC to support me.  But so many of my friends tracked me, encouraged me and posted congratulatory messages.

I am a lucky runner.

5. I want a redo.

Yes, I want to run this race ONE more time.

To have a better time.

I’m not talking about a faster time but a more enjoyable time.

TCS New York City Marathon 2024

Nov. 3, 2024, here I come!

Happy Running! Have you learned anything from one of your unsuccessful races? Please share.
