After the 10k in NYC, I had the same issue with my Achilles as I did after the previous 10 miler and 5k races.
With no long races on my schedule until July 12, I could lay low…
and get ready to return to NYC today for work.
Last Week-
- Sunday – Another day with iffy weather. It rained on and off.
I started the day at the gym and then got a lot of errands.
I spent most of the afternoon in the garden and then we barbecued before the rain. Phew.
- Monday -DAY OFF. Hiking was the plan followed by lunch.
First up:
Then meeting up with 2 hiking buddies…
We did a very easy yet scenic hike and discovered a new restaurant for a very delicious lunch!
In the evening, instead of my pickleball lesson, a friend was in town so a few of us met for dinner.
- Tuesday – Still babying my foot so I started the day at the gym.
I decided to go into the office and then afterward, I had a hair appt met my BFF for a walk.
- Wednesday – this morning I had my 2nd appt with my chiro… my achy lower back = tight hip flexors)
and in the afternoon , I had to go set up for live teaching this week.
On the way home, I hoped to get in some miles at the Corning bike path…
I needed a mood lifter so I stopped to visit my granddaughter…
- Thursday – Day 1 of teaching and standing all day.
The highlight was Starbucks
and a trail run/walk in the evening.

a beautiful evening followed by ice cream but again my Achilles let me know that it needed a timeout…
- Friday- Day 2 of Starbucks, teaching and standing all day.
Then in the evening I played mah jongg.
- Saturday – Plans: Running? Boating? Both? Neither?
It turned out that it was finally perfect boating weather and so we invited 2 friends to come along and so I skipped my run.
- Sunday – Train to NYC for work… followed by some touristy activities and maybe a meeup with friends
This Coming Week on the Run –

I hope your achilles is feeling good – the hiking doesn’t bother it?
The hike looks lovely — I saw more of your photos on IG.
Yay for getting out on the boat!

Yes. Great to be on our boat.
The hike earlier in the week did not but the walk on Thursday did. ???

SIGH! I hope your achilles heals up quickly. For the low back, you could try Yoga With Adriene yoga for lower back pain. It really helps me, and one of the moves is a hip flexor stretch.
If I’m remembering correctly, you had this problem in your other achilles? What did you do to fix it? Anyway I hope this one feels better this week.

I hope that foot is feeling better.
And I love that you are so close to your granddaughter. It must be awesome to get to pop in so much! That makes my heart happy!
So glad you are back to the boat! That has to be great!

boating sounds PERFECT. and that hot tub is looking hella attractive !
it’s summer here. but summer in the Netherlands means rain. and I am so over it. I have to say though we get moments of sunshine that I absolutely take the time to appreciate. But yeah. rain. lots of it.

In NYC and yesterday was oppressive. I think it is cooling down. No rain and we need it.

Looks like that must have been a fabulous day on the lake.
How is your achilles responding to all the standing at work? Does it make it worse or is it purely related to running? I hope it gets better soon. Do your heel raises! Interesting about the lower back vs hip flexors, I’ve been doing some hip flexor work lately for other reasons and it seems to have been making a difference for my lower back but not sure yet.

Sitting is the worse for the back.
Standing is ok for the foot. It’s walking. Haven’t run in a few days. Hoping the rest helps.

Your hot tub looks so inviting! I hope that and some time off will help your achilles and back recover. You must really be hurting if you skipped your run. I’m sure that time on the boat was nice. Fingers crossed you get back to form soon.

Lucky that I went to the lake to take my mind off a skipped run. Lol.

Oh no, I’m sorry that your Achilles is bothering you again. Hopefully, some time off will help, but I know how hard that can be to take the time off.
Enjoy boating season! Have you taken your granddaughter for a boat ride yet?

I am resting and yes it is hard not to run.

I wish it wasn’t because I’m hurting. But it was great reprieve.
