It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
1.I runfess…
Since one of my goals this year was to run NEW races, I was looking forward to this race:

My college roommate lives nearby so I encouraged her to sign up as a volunteer.
I even got Thursday-Monday off from work.
Of course, a breast cancer charity is important for me as well.
Guess what?
I went online to sign up for the race and discovered that it’s only virtual this year. I was very disappointed.
I contacted them and now I think they may have the race. They responded that details will be posted in early summer. ???
2. I runfess…
I had so much fun running the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon and getting a PW.
Yup, I stayed with a friend and when I got ahead of her, I stopped and waited for her.
And I took photos. I’ve never done that during a race before.
3. I runfess…
I may opt to do all my races like this. At least ones that I travel to with a friend.
4. I runfess…
That being said, my next half marathon is local and downhill.
So I am hoping (or dreaming) to finish it with some semblance of speed.
5. I runfess…
I am already looking for a new fun half marathon for next March or early April. Anyone have a suggestion?

maybe?
Happy Running! Anything to runfess this month? Please share.

I know we chatted about this-there is nothing wrong and so much right with running a race for fun and photos and friends and not worrying about pace. Do what brings you joy!

Yup. It’s hard when many just report on pace.
Racing brings me joy so I am hoping to accept my pace

That is such a great attitude with racing! My spring training was very compromised last year, but I wasn’t missing my favorite race (DAM to DSM) for anything. Like you, I focused on the sheer enjoyment of being there…and it was an awesome 13.1 miles of smiles & good will. Surprisingly, my finish time wasn’t very far off after all, maybe due to the lack ov stress & expectations (?).

I’ve gotten very slow the past two years. It is what it is so I have to make the best of it.

I hope that race does end up being in person for you since you’re so looking forward to it.
I always had a lot of fun at those races where I just ran for the fun of it. It’s great that you’re embracing it!
I’ve not run either of the races you’re thinking about for next spring, but both sound fun and are in great places to go for a racecation.

I agree. Both look scenic.
I hope I can keep up embracing the slow. lol.

Sounds like a fun way to do a race to me 🙂
I hope it works out so that race ends up being in person – I’m kinda surprised anyone’s doing virtual races any more.

I hope so too. There are still virtual options around.

I did the same in NYC Half – when I realized I wasn’t going to be able to qualify for next year on time… I took photos and videos and enjoyed the run! It works!

It made it so much fun.

There’s much to be said for putting pace aside and getting out there for pure fun. I’m sure your friend appreciated it.
Bummer about the race going virtual!

The race may happen. We’ll see.
And yes I think my friend enjoyed having me with her.

It sounds like you have found the secret to success in enjoying racing for many years to come — especially destination races with friends. And you will have more/better memories with all the great photos to look back on!

I am so in love with experience races where you just get out there and have a good time! That’s where I’m at for my next half, wherever that might be.
The Savannah race is great. The course is a bit uneven (lots of cobblestones and turns), but a wonderful event.

Yes. I agree. And good to know about Savannah.

There’s something to be said for an INTENTIONAL PW! I’m sure my Ft. Lauderdale half this year was my PW, but I stopped to take photos, ran off course to get a picture of our wedding spot, started at the very back of the pack after running a couple miles on my own… and I really enjoyed it. Someday I’d like to work on speed again (maybe this summer??? but it seems like I say that every summer) and go for a faster time… we’ll see.
