I always have big races on my schedule.
But now I don’t..
I’m undecided about my Florida February half or any other halfs before our October race-cation.
Last Week –
- Sunday – I started the day at the gym (my last week!!)
Big FOMO as I read all the posts by my friends running the Stockade-athon 15k.
I met my tennis friends for an early dinner and then we toured Troy Glow.
- Monday – DAY OFF – so many options but I decided on a scenic walk
and then in the evening the STEM group run.
- Tuesday – A morning gym visit (my last for awhile) and then a walk in the mall with my BFF after work.
- Wednesday –
I decided to actually run before work… Below freezing…not ready yet so I waited until lunchtime when it had warmed up a little.
- Thursday – I had to teach live today so I started with my Starbucks
and ended with a run…
- Friday – Same as Thursday except no run… mah jongg instead.
- Saturday – Long Run and Brunch.
I felt ok last week with 6 miles so I decided to stretch it to 7… I had company from Judy for 4 of the 7 miles.
- Sunday – Gym membership on hold so just a walk or hike
This Coming Week on the Run –
- Monday – run with STEM
- Tuesday –
hair apptwake for a friend 😦 - Wednesday – run
- Thursday –
runhair appt - Friday- run?, mah jongg
- Saturday – Long Run (and Brunch) or maybe just a walk…
- Sunday – Upstate Classic 5k (as a STEM mentor), in the evening out to dinner to celebrate with mah jongg ladies (16 years of playing together on Friday nights).
This Coming Week on the Blog –
- Tuesday – Grateful Post
- Friday – 5 Reasons to be Thankful for Running

I’m definitely in limbo when it comes to racing. I don’t want to do any more long distance road races, but I might be convinced to do another trail race. My son and I are running a turkey trot in Chicago, so there’s that!

That should be fun.
I bet you do another trail race.

You’re in limbo over the February half? Are you still coming to Florida? My husband is thinking of doing that race, and I MIGHT do it as well. It depends on if I can train properly between now and then- I don’t want to just slog through it really slowly.
Sorry about your weather. Below freezing… ouch.

Looks like a good week of mixed workouts. I read your reply to Jenny. You two should run the half together so you can break your bad luck streak with that race.
I’m sorry to see you’ll be attending the wake of a friend.

It would be fun but she’s mostly likely faster… we’ll see.

I am not motivated to any races right now so who knows. It’s nice to have down time during the busy holiday season

My trail race was a doozy, last weekend, but it didn’t dampening racing mojo. That said, I’m good with shorter distance events for awhile. I have the Des Moines Turkey Trot this year, which will be a new trotting gig for me!

A new turkey trot is great. Hope it becomes a tradition.

I’m so sorry to see a wake on your schedule for the upcoming week. Especially for a friend. Sending hugs for that! I think I will be doing a friends Thanksgiving run, but I haven’t quite figured out my plan yet. For the first time in many years I am not hosting Thanksgiving dinner so that changes my plans a bit!

I’m not hosting either.
A friends run sounds like fun.

It’s hard to not know what’s next! I would be unmoored by that, for sure.
I do have a Turkey Trot 5K and then a 5K the following weekend. That one will be a bit cross country, so I’m not sure how I’m feeling about it. And then I do have a february half. Funny that we are so aligned.
Give yourself some time and then you can dive in and commit (or not) to something (or nothing) at all!

What day is your Feb. half? Mine is Feb 16. I wish we were closer and could do the same race. Maybe one day?

I bet you’ll race between now and February! I on the other hand will finish 2024 without a single race — that’s OK though.

I will do a turkey trot but I don’t worry about the shorter distance.
You are plenty active. You are so inspiring with your Peleton workouts.

I’m so sorry about your friend. 😦
How do you feel about no races? Will you enjoy more relaxed running, or do you think you’ll sign up for something?
I’m not ready for subfreezing temps either. Especially since I’ve missed the good parts of the autumn because of my foot injury.

Hope your foot heals soon.
I’m happy to run short on the weekends. But I’m sure those halfs will pop on my calendar soon.

Ooh a 7 miler is a nice long run – especially after doing a marathon! I only have a 5K turkey trot on my calendar – I typically don’t do many if any races in the winter. Not just the weather, but my weekends are full of basketball (for 2 kids), indoor soccer, ice skating and futsal – so much going on!

there aren’t a lot of races in the winter… we have some free ones but you can travel to a warmer climate if you need that racing fix.
