Next trip to NYC. I leave today for a week there for work.
Next half marathon. April 13!!
Glad that this past week was a recovery week since the weather was a challenge!!!
Last Week –
- Sunday – RACE DAY – United NYC Half Marathon!
The logistics for any NYC race is stressful and even more so when you stay in Manhattan and the race starts in Brooklyn. At least I had company but at the last minute, we decided on the subway instead of the bus we booked.
There were a few glitches but it all worked out.
The race was hard. It was much harder than I thought it would be but I prodded along, took in all the scenery and walked as often as needed.
We all crossed that finish line!! And the weather was perfect!!!! Win. Win.
After we finished the race, the four runners met up with our two supporters and we all walked back to our hotel.
After a LONG hot shower, my roommate, Heidi and I walked around the area before meeting the others to walk to an Italian restaurant in Times Square where we celebrated our race achievement.
- Monday – A busy recovery day in NYC. We happily got a 2 pm check out of the hotel.
I encouraged my roommate to join me in exploring Central Park. It was lovely as spring had sprung there. Then we walked back to the hotel stopping for refreshments along the way.
Eventually we joined the others for a walk along the High Line followed by a lovely lunch in Chelsea.
Afterward, we walked back to our hotel to retrieve our bags from the hotel and head to Penn to catch our train home.
- Tuesday – Glad it was a WFH day (my only one this week.)
Started with a quick trip to the gym. Brrrr…cold and breezy!! Spring??
Looking ahead at both the weather and my work schedule, I decided to squeeze in some miles at lunch.
- Wednesday – Before I had to go to the office and then to the lab to set up for my class the next day, I squeezed in a run.
That evening, I attended my first meeting as a mentor with those training for the Run for Women 5k (on June 1). I worked with the beginner group and we used the Couch to 5K app.
It was windy, freezing with intermittent snow squalls…
- Thursday – Rest Day. Teaching live today so no time for the gym or a run (Cold and windy so not sad to be stuck indoors.). Besides after work, I had a hair appt.
- Friday – Back in the classroom again
and then mah jongg in the evening.Rest Day #2.
When mah jongg got cancelled, I went out to dinner with some former co-workers.
- Saturday – Long Run – one week post half marathon but 4 weeks before the next one. That meant that 11 miles was on my schedule as long as the weather cooperated.
Nope!! Snow/rain/sleet/wind = run postponed.
It never gets old. I’ve seen this show so many times (I used to take my French students back when it was on Broadway and have also seen many times since.)
I was fortunate that it was playing locally and I convinced some friends to go with me. The drive there and back was no picnic but it was worth it.
- Sunday – It will be a
gym visitlong run (most likely only 8 miles somewhere dry) … and then the train to NYC. Maybe a walk when I get there? Again weather dependent.
This Coming Week on the Run –
- Monday – evening run or walk, meet-up with Cari & Elizabeth
- Tuesday – evening run or walk, Broadway show
- Wednesday – evening run, Macys flower show
- Thursday – evening run or walk, Lady Gaga tour
- Friday – train home
- Saturday – Long Run
- Sunday – GYM, Easter dinner with the fam
This Coming Week on the Blog –
- Tuesday – My Blog Turned Sweet Sixteen
- Friday – Runfessions

Fun is important. Freezing today. And no power. That is no fun. Glad to be leaving.

Congrats on your NYC Half finish! It seems like you had a good attitude going in and throughout and just took it as it came. You always seem to have so much fun! Hopefully you will have some sun and warmer temps soon.

15 degrees today and no power. Some spring.

Congrats on the NYC finish! Finishing is winning in my book! We got 4″ of snow before we left on spring break. It had better be all gone by the time we return!

Lots of snow here. Boo.

Ack! Really, no power? That sounds miserable. Glad you’re getting out of there.
Glad your race went well! Since I seem to be following in your footsteps, recovery-wise, I hope I can say the same things about my race in May. I won’t be the fastest one there, but I want to cross the finish line and have fun.
Have fun in NYC!

Congrats on your half and how fun to run it with friends! It sounds like you’re making the most of your business trip to NYC.
Ugh on the weather. We’ve got beautiful sunny weather today, but colder than average.

It looks like the “Spring” weather was a bit of a buzzkill for all of us this week. I love all your NYC adventures! The pics are great for those of us who don’t have the advantage of being so close.

We had snow this weekend too – sounds like it came your way! My parents as you know live in the area and they got hit with snow AND lost power 😦 Safe travels to NY! I saw the city was getting rain but at least the weather is warmer.

Yes. I’m hoping for warmer. We were still powerless when I left.

Sounds like you had a good race even if it was hard. Good weather, good company, and you finished.
So sorry about the bad cold weather. It seems like the spring is delayed everywhere! We don’t have snow but it’s cold, windy and wet.

Congrats on the NYC Half! I like the course route from back when I did it — starting in CP and ending down at Wall Street. The new course is tougher for sure.
Hopefully your April race is more fun!

Congrats again on NYC! Looks like you had a great time–but you always have fun in NYC, right?
We saw Les Miserables years ago before the boys were born. It’s still one of my favorite musicals!

Les Mis is one of my favorites. I’ve seen it five or six times, and I would happily see it five or six more.
I’m sorry the race was hard, but I’m so proud of you for getting through it.
The last week has been weird as far as weather is concerned. I wish it was nicer, but we just keep getting storms, which is never fun. It cramps my style.

Well done on NYC. It is hard sustaining things between two races like that. My friend and I have trained for her Sheffield Half which is the first weekend in April, then hoping to keep going for our Birmingham Half on 5 May! I’m doing 11 while she does her race, then we’ll do some 9s I think.

Exactly. And my mojo tanked after that race.
