A 5 mile race belatedly to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
There was a dinner to celebrate my stepson’s and his wife’s anniversary and also a farewell dinner for a tennis friend (who’s moving). I did NOT run enough miles this week to burn off all those extra calories…
- that cake was so delish
- so was this one
The pics above explain the title of this post. LOL
Last Week:
- Sunday – A relaxing day (post virtual half marathon)
After tracking all my friends who were in NYC running the live NYC Half Marathon, I drove to Saratoga Springs
I was scheduled to volunteer for the Freihofer 5k at the Adirondack Sports Expo.
I got there early and had some delicious donut holes & spicy mocha while I strolled around Congress Park and downtown.
Then I got to hang out with some and old new friends while promoting this race (you can run it live or virtually for only $22 – that includes a shirt and a medal – AMBDC is the discount code)
- Monday – I actually worked at an in-person training today (yup wore real clothes and make-up). Then after work, I participated in the first of 11 Freihofer Training Challenge (FTC) runs. As a Ambassador for the race, I was just there to support and to have some friends to run with. (Admittedly it is a pain to drive there and wait until 6 pm to run).
- Tuesday – I was able to squeeze in a run at lunch
Well, I went to the gym … to pick up my membership card.
I have FREE 12-week membership at the local YMCA as part of the FTC. Now I just need to go…
- Wednesday – I waited until after work to run. I wanted some different scenery so I drove to the Albany end of the rail trail.
- Thursday – I started the day (6:30 am) with an orientation at Y. A perfect activity for a rainy rest day.
After work, I went out to dinner for a farewell party. One of my tennis friends is moving to NC.
- Friday – A busy work day but I managed to squeeze in a short run at lunch.
After work, another dinner. This time at my MIL’s to celebrate my stepson and his wife’s 3rd wedding anniversary.
- Saturday – Started the day at the gym!
My plan was to work out at 6 am, then meet friends at 8 am followed by brunch.
Only the Y opens at 8 am on Saturdays not 5:30 am (as it does on weekdays). D’uh.
Since I had a race the next day, I only walked 3 miles and obviously not as far as planned. Still met at 10:30 for brunch.
- Sunday – Race Day. Shamrock Shuffle 5 Miler.
This is a race that I’ve done many times in the past but not since 2019. The plan is to have fun and have enough energy left to stop on my way home at the Zim Smith bike path and run 6 more miles…

Happy Running! How is your running going? Any in-person races run or planned
You had a social whirlwind this week! I think it’s kind of silly for the Y to open so late on the weekend. Wth?? Hope you have fun at your race!

And it’s closed on Sunday. WTH?

My gym- which I haven’t been to in over two years- also opens at 8 on weekends. It’s really annoying!
I hope your race went well! I can’t wait to hear all about it, and whether or not you had it in you to run 6 more miles afterwards.
You definitely had a lot of cake in your life this week! It looks like a lot of fun.

The gym is closed on Sundays. Can you believe that?

My gym used to open later at the weekend, too – very annoying! A social whirl of a week, and real clothes & makeup, not sure I could deal with that, myself!

Yes. It was tough to get dressed like that.

My ideal would be to get to my gym twice a week, but it’s usually just one day a week due to my easy/hard days of my marathon training plan. But at least my husband makes up for my lack of visits and gets our money’s worth out of it! Busy week for you – and delicious looking cake. Yumm

I will be hard to squeeze in the gym but I plan to give it my best shot.

Yeah, that is really unfortunate the Y opens so late on Saturdays, and is closed on Sundays. Do you need me to call/text you on those other early mornings? 😉 I hope it works well with your schedule to get there. Oh, that cake!

Lol. I think I can get myself to the gym. We’ll see.
The cake was amazing. Actually both were.

Those weekend gym hours would be frustrating. I wonder if they are having staffing issues or it always was that way? Maybe most people use it on weekdays?
I would have loved to visit your Freihofer table and gotten a cookie! I prefer cookies to cake. 😉
I hope your race + run went well today.

Is there a pool at the Y? You could try pool running, just saying…
Good luck today at your race!

Yes, there is a pool. I should try it. I wouldn’t know where to begin… don’t even have a cap.
The race was fun even though it may be been a PW… got to accept that I am aging…

I don’t know about that. I try to stay sane outside of work.
The race was fun. But windy.

This cakes look so yummy!
When I was a member at LA Fitness they used to open at 5am during the week and 8am on the weekend which was super frustrating. I always wished they had the same hours each day.

Despite the wind, I actually felt it was not a bad day to run. I wouldn’t have wanted to run in the afternoon as the wind (and snow) picked up even more though!

The race was at 11 am. And then I ran after at 1:00. Pretty windy.

Quite the busy week! How bizarre that the Y opens so late on a Saturday. Hope your race was fun!

You and I have spoken often of our struggle with strength training so I’m really impressed you’re committing to the gym! Disappointed that you made the effort on Saturday and it opened up late. I would think weekends would be the time they opened earlier and longer just so more people can fit it into their busy weekend schedules.

And it’s closed on Sundays. I plan to go 3x a week until June 4. It’s free so why not?
And yes those cakes were delish.
