New Month. And lots to be grateful for.
I get my 2nd COVID vaccine this coming week.
I have a vacation in a warmer climate planned for this month.
I will be running an in-person race.
My family and friends are all healthy.
The days are getting longer.
Spring starts next month.
Last Week –
- Monday – The snowstorm was predicted to start in the afternoon. So boy was I surprised to wait up to snow on the ground already and it was snowing. #nevermissamonday! What to do? I knew things would be getting worse before they got better so I waited for the snow plow/salt truck to go by and then went for a run. The worst part was going down my driveway and no shoulder on the side of the main road.

it was one of my more enjoyable runs…Lady Gaga…snowflakes on my nose & eyelashes.. and no pressure to run fast or not walk
By lunchtime, there seemed to be a lull in the snow so I drove to the local park hoping the hit the trails. Well, I was too lazy to put on my yaks and grab my poles and getting to the trails was too icy so I just took a walk around the park.
After work, I was better prepared and go in a decent hike. Nope…snowing too hard. Hunkered down at home and read a book (The Vanishing Half = good one!).
- Tuesday – Ok, I woke up to too much snow for a morning anything outdoors.
It continued to snow all morning so my only option was the bike at lunch. (George to the rescue.) I set up a TV so I could use it for the Peleton app instead of my ipad or iphone.
Then I shoveled out my hot tub (priorities) and checked out the roads in the ‘hood.
After work, I was determined to get outside again. Not to run but for a long walk with friends.
- Wednesday – No more snow but still a cold day with a lot more wind. I drove into town for a run at lunch. On my way, I ate three homemade cookies. I’m telling you this because I had more energy than normal…

New York State of mind today (hat & Jacket). Matty & I seem to have the same music tastes. So much energy that I actually did FIVE hill repeats (I never do drills!!)
I also met my BFF for a long walk before dinner.
- Thursday – A beautiful morning. There was even sun but not much time to do much out there before work.
I did go for another lunch run in town (but on different streets) and again with Matty (on Peleton).
And then back to the outside mall after work for a long walk with friends.
- Friday – Rest day. A Bike ride at lunch. An easy decision since the weather was supposed to be nasty (but of course then it wasn’t).
And a trail walk at Fiver Rivers after work.

I found a path where a lot of skiers and snowshoers had packed up the snow so I was able to walk it wit just hiking boots
- Saturday – Long Run Saturday. Finally temps near 30. (For us it is a winter heat wave). I met Sherry for 10 miles at The Crossings. I ran 3 solo and then 7 with her and my friend Stan (who showed up by surprise.) It was cold but sunny and so much less windy and cold than the previous Saturday. Last long run before my race!!

Stan is a much faster runner and he definitely pushed us. After 7 with them, I walked and left them to run another mile (at his pace.)
- Sunday – Started the day on George. Substituted Peleton for Netflix

binge watched this and had to watch episode 10 of Season 1. Anyone watch this or have read the book?
Lots of snow on the trails but difficult to decide where to hike without snowshoes or X-country skis. Sherry lent me her micro-spikes and I was excited to try them out. I was afraid that the snow would not stop and I would have to postpone my hike. But around 2:30 pm, it did and I decided to explore Plotterkill Preserve.

The snow was packed so I didn’t need my spikes until I got to the bridge (the stairs were pure ice).. It was such a nice hike and it started snowing near the end. Perfect. Next time, I’ll have to go earlier so I could do all the trails. (and there was a waterfall (top right)
This Coming Week –
- Monday – run, walk, ZOOM book club (The Vanishing Half)
- Tuesday – run, COVID vaccine #2, walk with friends
- Wednesday – rest day, bike, walk, pack
- Thursday – flt to Fort Lauderdale, drive to N. Boca, dinner in Deerfield Beach with friends
- Friday – run (at sunrise), gardens and bird sanctuaries with a friend
- Saturday – rest day, sunrise walk, brunch with a friend, drive to FL, boat tour to lighthouse, race expo
- Sunday – Race Day – Publix A1A Fort Lauderdale Half Marathon, explore Fort Lauderdale, boat ride on the New River

Happy Running! How is your running going? Doing any virtual races? Are you venturing outdoors in the sub zero temps? Any knitters out there? How about succulents? Please share.
You need to get down here asap. The weather is FINE! Glad to see you attended to your priority of getting that hot tub shoveled out! I want to watch FIrefly Lane but it looks like I’ll be on my own for that one. Caveman gave it a veto.

It is definitely a chick flick.
The race that I almost ran today (in Melbourne) was stopped due to a huge thunderstorm. Hope I have better luck next Sunday.
How long are you staying?

I get my second dose this week too! I’m not sure what to expect- alot of people haven’t felt great after but my husband had no symptoms at all. I bet it will feel great to be in warmer weather soon!

I know. Fingers crossed that we both feel fine afterwards.
And yes I can’t wait to go outside without all those layers.

So what you’re telling me is that cookies work for good pre-run fuel? I once had a slice of apple pie before a run and the run went well so I think we might be on to something, lol.
Hope all goes well with the second vaccine shot this week!

Yes, they actually did. I expected to feel sick but I guess I had a sugar rush.
Thanks. I hope I feel fine after the vaccine.

It looks like we all got dumped on this week! I don’t love the snow, but the windchill has been crazy. I’m still trying to get outside everyday, even if it’s for just a 1-mile walk. Bring on Spring!!!

I agree. The wind is the worst. It makes a cold run unbearable. Feel bad ass. If I could run last Sat (-10 wind chill) I can do anything. It will be a shock when I run in the Fla humidity. I will not complain!

Still trying to get a first dose around here! Hopefully you will feel fine after yours. Way to get outside so much with all the snow and cold temps. Glad you are enjoying your Peloton classes

It helps to be “old”.
I am using Peleton everyday. Trying to make the most of my 2 month trial.

Looks like you did a great job of getting time outdoors despite the weather! Just think, you’ll be in that Florida sunshine and warmth before you know it – what a nice change that will be! Hope all goes smoothly with your second vaccine.

I hope it is sunny and warm and if not, there will be NO snow or ice!!
Thanks. I am hopeful for a smooth vaccine experience.

Nice photos of the deer & sunset.
I was actually hoping to run in the snow Friday & today, but both days I managed to finish right before it started to snow.

I love hiking in the snow. Not a fan of running in yak trax or falling.
I got lucky today. The trails were awesome after the snow and then it started again near the end.

I hope so. A little nervous about vaccine 2 but still better than COVID. And I can recover on the beach.

I did read the book Firefly Lane but for the life of me, I don’t remember what it was about, lol. I’ll check out the movie.
Have so much fun in Florida! I’m so jealous. It’s just miserable here.

The first season is not the whole book anyway. I read it too and didn’t remember.
Florida will be here next year and with fewer restrictions. You are lucky to have some real races and beautiful trails.

I’ll have to check out Firefly Lane as my next treadmill show! It looks good. Glad you had a winter heat wave and were able to get your long run done.

It’s funny that 30 is a heat wave here.
It is a chick flick if you like that kind of series.

I’m loving your snowy photos — from a distance! LOL on opting out of the intervals. I usually play along with those, but skip any drills in the warm-up. 😉 I have not seen that Netflix show – is it good?

I can’t wait for that distance from the snow as well.
It is a total check flick but I read the book and did enjoy it. Hopefully there will be Season 2. It leaves you up in the air.

Yes, I’m excited to hear how your half goes! So bummed I’m not running it this year, but excited for the runners who are (including my husband.) Sounds like you have an awesome week coming up!

Are you coming to cheer on your husband? Running in Fla humidity will be a shock to my system. But I will try to just enjoy the race. Can’t wait to leave.

Elizabeth is watching firefly too.
Enjoy Lauderdale. Wish I felt comfortable enough to do it with you.
Is the local park from Monday the one where I met you for that quick hi? Need to find that 80s run. Did a good walk today

It’s ok. I definitely will miss you. You’re the reason I signed up. At least we had Bermuda. (I sound like Bogart.)
I plan to enjoy my get away. Just need a break form work and running in snow/ice.
Yes, the same park.

You have a wonderful list of amazing things. I love it.
I read The Vanishing Half in about two days. It was soooo good. I’m not really interested in Firefly Lane. That’s not my genre at all.
So glad you were able to get out in spite of all the snow. Florida is going to be positively hot compared to what you’ve got going on up there!

Me too. I couldn’t put it down.
Hot sounds good right now.

I am trying to get outside at least once a day. Not necessarily to run though.
