My WFH stint was supposed to end on April 29. Now it has been extended until at least May 15.
Otherwise things are the same. All social activities still cancelled. Missing my friends!! But keeping in touch via ZOOM.
Trying to get outdoors often so I do not go stir crazy in my Office (aka a room in my house). Always looking for new and interesting places to run or walk and practice social distancing.

trying to run one of these each week…
The NYC Mini 10k on June 13,2020 was cancelled – another race that I was REALLY looking forward to!!!
I’ve always had to work and could not participate. This year the hike was on a Sunday and I signed up with the hubby. 😦
But the good news:
Congrats to Kim and Debbie!!
Thanks to all those who entered. It’s not too late. You can still register until May 5 at https://freihofersrun.com/virtual-5k/. Use the code AMBSS5 and for $20 you will get:
- 42nd annual virtual Freihofer’s Run for Women t-shirt & bib

The t-shirts, medals and coupons will be mailed to participants the first week in June.
Last Week –
- Monday – Happy to see the sun shining even if it was only a rest day.
- Tuesday – A nasty windy rainy day!! I skipped my lunch walk and crossed my fingers that the rain (and wind) would stop at some point so I could go for a short run.
Yeah, well the rain did stop. So I drove to the Crossings for a quick run. (I wanted to go to Trader Joes which is why I picked this run location and in the evening now I’ve got plenty of time.)
- Wednesday – Earth Day!! I woke up to SNOW!! It did melt but again it was windy!! I took my usual lunch time walk… Had to find a location to be protected from the CRAZY wind.
and then after work I drove to Washington Park to complete my Earth Day Virtual 5k. The wind was so strong and cold that I threw in the towel.
I stopped on the way home to check out a new trail.
- Thursday – Still cold but at least it was sunny. Rain was in the forecast so I was glad to fit in my lunch walk and planned to try for the 3rd time to run a 5k.

My good friend texted me that she is only working (as a doctor) M,W,F and asked if I wanted to met her for a walk. You know I jumped at the chance to see a friendly face. We shared the view from the trail behind my house
I decided for once to RUN on the trail behind my house. However, I forgot how hilly it was. Still the temps warmed up, the wind died down and I got back in time to cook dinner and ZOOM chat with my running friends. (We did two sessions we were having so much fun.)
- Friday – A rainy rest day. I tried to squeeze my lunch walk in between the raindrops.
The rain did stop by the time I finished work. I went back to the trail I discovered on Wednesday and walked the full loop.
Then I found another nearby trail. This loop was longer and muddier but still felt great to be outdoors.
- Saturday – I started the day with my favorite yoga teacher’s class – Yoga for Runners – Glute & Piriformis Activation and Healing. Great class. Next month is hips!
After class, I headed out for my long run. Again, later than I would have liked. I had planned to run from 9-11 miles but after last weekend, I just wanted to have a decent run.
Where to go? I decided on Peebles Island. Although I knew that it would be crowded in the park, I knew the path to Green Island would be pretty empty and then the Erie Canal path in Waterford would have no one on it.
And I was right. There were some walkers but they were courteous and wearing masks. I continued father into Green Island (which was new to me) and then returned to my car for a water stop. Then I proceeded to the canal path which was deserted (and soft on the feet).

Felt so much better than last week – not as warm or as late in the day and I wore my old shoes with no taping
After some laundry and gardening, I realized that since it would be raining the next TWO days, I should continue my quest to visit the local preserves and walk the trails. They are perfect for social distancing since no one is usually at them.
- Sunday – A ugly raining day. Lots of de-cluttering to done! But first a visit to TWO more preserves:
Just a few raindrops and no one else there. I think I am enjoying these walks more than my runs.
This Coming Week –
- Monday – run
- Tuesday – rest day, walk
- Wednesday – run (un-canceled 10k)
- Thursday – run, ZOOM running group chat
- Friday – rest day,
mah jonggwalk - Saturday – LONG RUN (12?)
- Sunday – rest day, walk, ZOOM tennis book club

Happy Running! How is your running going? How is this virus affecting you and your family? Are you having hard time finding safe places to run? Are you running in new places or are in a running route rut? Have you run any virtual races? Please share.
Despite the bad weather this week, I felt the good weather outweighed the bad. By far. 3 days of sun? It makes all the difference!

I mostly remember 3 days of battling the wind. My only sunny run was yesterday.

My company told us that WFH would be through June 1st from the get go, it’s a big global company, so that’s always been my benchmark. Summer races are starting to be cancelled where I live, though our state is supposed to open up in early May, we’ll see…. In the meantime we have lots of outdoors to tide us over.

I expect to be at home much longer and maybe no races in 2020. Yes they can’t trap in the house. Outdoor activities are great.

My WFH end dat is May 20 but I haven a feeling that may get extended to June. It’s just a waiting game at this point. I have to admit that I’m over working from home every day but understand why it’s necessary.
So sorry that the Mini 10K was cancelled 😦 I’m signed up to run a local 5K the first weekend in June which hasn’t officially been canceled yet but it’s only a matter of time before they cancel. I hope that will offer a virtual option for the race.

Virtual options are ok but not a great substitute. I do understand why they can’t always refund the money.
I am so over this WFH. I don’t know how people stay home everyday…it’s not for me.

We’ve had terrible weather the last couple of weeks; even when it’s sunny, there’s been a cool wind off lake Michigan. I’m just over the whole thing!!!
I’ve still got a live race on the calendar in July; it was rescheduled from April. I can’t imagine that it’s going to happen. Sigh.

My next real one is in August…who knows!!! I am so ready to be warm!!

It does seem that races and events continue to be canceled. You sure got some great photos in this week despite some crazy weather. We have had a lot of rain so trying to dodge that. My favorite trails to run are just too crowded for my comfort. I may go down there on one of the rainy days just to have a flat place to run. Have a great week ahead! Thanks for linking up

Some trails here probably are too but I guess you have run early or go to ones that are not crowded. I know places that are not crowded. You may have to drive a bit but I think it is worth it…and I’m not busy lol

Did you see my subject line? We are so the same person, as we knew. Yay no taping, fewer crowds. I’m still in my PJs. I might not leave the house today

Just saw your title. Not surprised.

I am loving your trail pictures! I am ready for a change of scenery for my runs. Maybe next weekend … I think I am WFH until mid-June, but if our office opens in phases I won’t be rushing to be first. 😛

I have no idea when we’ll go back. It may be a long summer.

I know that looks can be deceiving, but the weather looks so pretty in all of your pictures. It’s been pretty cool here with what seems like more rainy days than not. I think this week is supposed to be better! I hope so because I want to get back outside to do some more gardening.
Again, thank you so much for the free entry into the virtual Freihofer’s 5K! It was such a pleasant surprise to get your email!
Have a great week and stay safe!

Yes. Looks can be deceiving. Monday was the best day and it was a rest day. But Saturday was nice too especially for a long run.
Hope this 5k is your comeback.

I’m excited too. Too bad it’s virtual but at least I’ll have virtual company.
I am enjoying my trail walks.

Looks like you were able to get outside to alot of nice places last week! We had a lot of rain and I found it harder to find time to get outside. Hoping for some sunnier days this week!

We had wind. Now rain yesterday and today. Ugh!!!

I feel like the weather pattern has shifted. April feels like March used to. We don’t really get a spring. We go from winter right to 90 degrees and summer is SO fleeting. Love all your beautiful scenery!

I love it too. Just wish the sunny days outnumbered the rainy windy ones.

You find so many different places to run – it’s nice to see all of them! As for more races being canceled, I’m thinking along your line that everything will be canceled for the rest of this year. Sad, but there’s no way you can practice social distancing in a race…unless you’re me, HAH! Maybe my back of the pack thing is an asset. 😉

I am hoping that you are wrong and we can start to race at the end of the summer. Being optimistic.
This being cooped up all day has forced to to look for new places. There are so many if you look.

All we can do is make the most of this crazy time! I love that you’re hitting up all the preserves – they look beautiful! But man is it cold where you live! I’m so glad not to deal with snow in Philly!
I’ve been staying away from virtual races but the Freihofer 5K does look pretty good…so I have a few days to decide whether to sign up! Then I can use the next few weeks to “train”.

You should sign up. It’s just for fun and you’ll get a cool medal and shirt.
I am so ready not to be cold outdoors. One nice day and then 3 rainy cold windy days ugh!!

Congratulations, Kim & Debbie!
I’m sorry your WFH got extended. I know you are ready to be back out there (same over here).
That being said, it looks like you had some beautiful runs. I can’t get over snow one day and tulips the next. That’s just crazy!

No tulips really here yet (only in NYC). But yes, spring one day and snow the next.
The walks have been beautiful and I’m good with that. My runs are just a way to be outdoors and moving.

I love that you’ve been checking out some new trails for your walks – a change of scenery is always a good thing! I think I’m going to need to mix it up this week to try to keep things interesting…I’m bored with my neighborhood routes.

Wow, you visited a lot of nice places this week! It sounds like some of my coworkers might be returning to the office in the next few weeks. I joked that I’d have to learn all of their names again! (actually kind of true!). It’s going to be so weird going from an empty office building to full, or even half, capacity again. Not sure I’m ready for that.

If I weren’t home bound I would have never been motivated to explore.. They have cancelled the Saratoga race track for spectators and that is in August. So things are not looking good for opening up.
