A-Z is Over … Back to Whining … I Mean Running

I loved doing the A-Z Challenge – so much fun trying to think of something to post about each day. Most of the time I naturally related the post to running. But sometimes not.

So now it’s back to race goals, training updates, 2 for Tuesday, 3 things Thursday, etc.

This is what I currently need:

run-fastIn December, I finished a post-injury 5k in 35:25. Then in March, I shocked myself (and my new Newtons) in finishing a 5k in 28:49!! (A confidence booster for sure.)

So in my mind I was back and I would be getting faster with each race.

WRONG!

lg 5k finish

I finished the Lake George 5k in 29:17 (ok, it was hiller) and then Sean’s Run in 30:31 (ok, I had a nose bleed).

So my 5K times has gotten SLOWER not faster:

  • 28:49
  • 29:17
  • 30:31

I know I said that my times wouldn’t matter as long as I could run again. But they do!!

  1. I worry I am never going to be “fast” again either but it doesn’t stop me from trying! I know you won’t either!

  2. You know..I say time doesn’t matter too..but I sure do like it when I go faster! I think both are true. In some odd way.

  3. Yes, I obsess over my speed. My training runs are just pure-t slow. But, I do better in the races. I just broke 36 minutes in last weeks Divs 5K. Lawd! Just so you know, you inspire me to keep running and to run longer. And FYI, if I were your size, I would come raid your running clothes closet.

  4. We use to say: “every race has its own story”. Different path, different approach, different weather, different training. However your latest finishing times are very good. I think you can run 5 km in 25:00. I will try to do it on May 19th.
