WRD for 7.5.26-7.12.26: Relief…

Relief:

  • from the heat of the previous week
  • from worrying whether or not to run the Boilermaker 15k
  • finally saw an Ortho for my foot on Thursday
  • finally got some PT appts (starting July 27)

Last Week-

  • Sunday – The original plan was to participate in the Lake George Hike-a-thon with my hubby…

as I have done with friends in previous years…

However, we were invited to dinner at friends and my hubby also invited work friends on our boat.

Too much to squeeze in on one day and I would be hiking the next day anyway,

Instead, I went to the gym and then we drove up to lake where we met up with my hubby’ friends and we all spent a lovely day on our boat.

perfect weather!!!

And in the evening, we had dinner with friends (They live in NC but have a summer home near our marina.).

  • Monday – DAY OFF.  Hiking was planned.  It looked to be rainy and two friends cancelled but Heidi and I decided to change the location and go hiking anyway.

the rain held off!! but not the mud…lol

A couple of wrong turns and 3 miles turned into 4,2 but the Achilles held up fine and afterward we went out for lunch and then ice cream.

  • Tuesday – WFH all week… Rain all day today and cooler temps.

I was able to get out after rain for a short arboretum walk

too much mud to do much walking so I left and got my nails done…

  • Wednesday – Another WFH day but I hadn’t run since Saturday so I did a UAlbany loop before I met my BFF for a walk.

God awful run… hot, tired and dragged myself through it with a lot of walking...

  • Thursday -WFH and I decided to start my day with a dip in the hot tub… Ahhh!!

What do you do when you finally have an ortho appt and your foot feels good??

Well, I went so at least I could get a script for PT. Diagnosis: achilles tendinosis with peritendinitis, (Treatment recommended: PT and what I have already been doing…)

In the evening, I went to my weekly trail run/walk. (followed my ice cream, of course.)

the rain stopped and it was a nice night

  • Friday- Back to the gym before work and mah jongg in the evening.
  • Saturday – No race this week so I was back on track to do a longish run and brunch with friends. I carpooled but decided to do my own run/walk.

My Achilles felt GREAT (what?) but after 3 miles, my left foot neuroma started to hurt (due to my high heel drop shoe and narrow toe box).. It’s always something!! (Do I switch back to my Topos??)

Afterward all 6 of us gathered for brunch.

  • Sunday – Gym and spending time at the lake. It will be my granddaughter’s first boating experience!!!

This Coming Week on the Run –

  • Monday – DAY OFF – gym, brunch with tennis friends, run?
  • Tuesday – gym, walk
  • Wednesday – run?
  • Thursday – trail run/walk
  • Friday- gym, PT appt, mah jongg
  • SaturdayLong Run/walk and Brunch
  • SundayKeep Moo’vin 5k

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday – Mid-Year Check in: Biggest Win
  • Friday – 5 Losses From The First Half Of The Year

Happy Running! Training for any big or small races?  Is it finally feeling like summer where you live? Are you patient when you shouldn’t run?  Do you go to PT for maintenance or an injury? Any Achilles issues? Please share.

  1. Ugh! I’m not happy about your diagnosis! Keep up what you’re doing and I’m crossing my fingers for your recovery.

How sweet that your granddaughter got to go out with you on the boat! I love that! And I’m so glad you are getting the lake time. I feel like you didn’t get out that much last summer, so this is great!

Sending hugs! I finally had ice cream last night and thought of you!

  2. Okay. I’m SO glad your achilles is feeling better. I’m wondering if it’s at least in part due to the higher drop in your shoe, but yes, then you have the neuroma to deal with. Are there ANY shoes with a high drop and wide toe box??? I’m going to look this up.

Anyway… things sound promising. Glad you’re getting some runs in!

  3. I hope your granddaughter is enjoying the boat! I did feel kinda odd getting a PT program for an “odd feeling” in my knee, with a pain level of “1 or maybe 2”, but we know our bodies, right? I did want to keep up with some exercises that should strengthen my knee and maybe keep an injury at bay. So yes, I guess I am getting maintenance mode PT right now! I hope your issue stays away.

  4. That’s good to have a diagnosis even if it sounds bad. I can imagine the balance between being nice to your achilles and not triggering the neuroma must be hard. Do you have any low heel drop shoes, to get the wide toe box but still some heel drop? (I assume your Topos are zero drop?) Like what Jenny uses from Altra with something like 4 mm?

Nice change of plans to get that hike done! It looks lovely. And your days on the lake look fabulous.

  5. I’m glad the Achilles isn’t too bad. My ankle sprain is still bothering me with sudden sharp pain coming out of nowhere, infrequently but not infrequently enough to trust it. And more so when I do my ankle-strengthening exercises. I’m still waiting for my community physio appointment. Fortunately we’re also having a heat wave, so were I to be running, I wouldn’t be anyway, if you see what I mean!

  6. I hope physical therapy goes well and you’re back to running regularly and pain-free again soon!

Did your granddaughter enjoy her first boating experience? I’m sure you and your husband loved having her onboard!
