Yesterday I ran my first March race and it will be followed by half marathons on the next two weekends…
But I’m mostly looking forward to spring temps and our snow melting.
Last Week –
- Sunday – I started the day at the gym…
Then met a friend for lunch..
- Monday – WFH all week… YAY!
But today I had the DAY OFF!
Trying to get back into hiking and it’s been awhile.
I planned to get in an early run but with 6 degree temps, I went back to the gym instead.
We drove to the Berkshires. However due to the snowy conditions and cold weather, we did 3 short hikes, had lunch, walked around town and then ended the day at our favorite ice cream spot…
- Tuesday – I had planned to do the run today that I skipped yesterday. But I didn’t look at the forecast.. still cold with heavy SNOW!
followed by sleet and FREEZING rain!!
Even too hazardous to drive and walk in the mall.
- Wednesday – Back to the gym before work…
and a run at UAlbany after work. Since I hadn’t run since Saturday, I decided to run one loop solo and then meet a friend to accompany her on a 2nd (slower) loop.
- Thursday – Another gym morning and my last run before the race.
Well, it RAINED all day.
Finally when I was done working, it seemed to have stopped so since I was meeting a friend at the mall to walk, I stopped off at UAlbany .
I did get in a few miles before the sky opened up…
- Friday- Just work.
Mah jongg was cancelled since most of the ladies were on vacation. So #flatme time and weather stalking for the next day.
- Saturday – Electric City 10K. I’ve run this race several times before (it was originally a 5 miler) and unfortunately we’ve usually had the worst weather.
There were two of us running it (plus 1000+ other locals). I carpooled with Deb and Barb (although they were injured and were only going to cheer). It poured on the drive over (which made me nervous since I wasn’t prepared for rain).
But it stopped. Phew. We parked in the parking garage and hung out on the Casino Lobby, socialized until the race began.
It was quite humid and not as windy as predicted so I was overdressed.
The course was slushy and full of puddles due the recent weather but no one fell and we both finished smiling.
As soon I was done, the skies opened up. Lucky again to have a dry race.
Afterward, we met those friends who were not racing for brunch.
- Sunday – I plan to head to the gym in the morning and in the evening, we have scheduled a goodbye party for one of running friends who is moving to Mass to be closer to her grandkids.
This Coming Week on the Run –
- Monday – run
- Tuesday – gym, walk
- Wednesday – run
- Thursday – gym, dinner & Cap Rep play
- Friday – run, pack, mah jongg
- Saturday – train to NYC, expo, carb loading, etc…
- Sunday – NYC Half Marathon, train home

Wow, it sounds like the race was timed perfectly between the rain. I love a winter race where you can wait inside before it starts — I’ve only done one like that.

Most races aren’t like this. But it’s great when they are.
The slower runners got very wet as did the volunteers and spectators. It didn’t rain long though. Just hard with sleet.

Oh yay for a dry race! I still spy some snow in your pics – still hasn’t melted yet Upstate? Good luck with the NYC half! It sounds like we will miss one another – I’m coming into Albany for the weekend but flying back to CLE on Monday.

Congrats on a successful 10k-you’ve had so many races canceled this winter that it’s nice to see you get one done! Glad the rain waited until you were done.

I am happy too. Unfortunately many runners were not so lucky.

Oof, those snowy photos- it’s so hard to imagine, as it’s in the 80s here. Glad you were able to get that race in- looking forward to the recap. And, you have some fun races coming up! I remember your Asheville half is the same day as my race. At least you should have good weather for that one.

Glad the race weather worked out! Cold rain is not so fun (maybe you didn’t escape we shoes with the puddles though!). You have a busy month coming up. I hope you stay healthy and uninjured for all of it!

So much snow, cold, and even rain. UGH. It does look like spring here, and I hope it’s here to stay. We just need all the brown grass to get some precip and turn green…

Still have some snow. But it feels like spring. Unfortunately it won’t last.
I plan to enjoy it.
