This week’s topic is: What are 5 Things That Are Essential to Your Fitness Routine (and 1 you skip):
Here are my Must Haves:
1. A Goal
IOW, my “WHY.”
It could be very simple such as fresh air, clear my head, de-stress, prepare for a race, build arm strength, socialize…
2. Food
I always eat breakfast before I work out or run.
And I always reward myself after.
3. Variety
I rarely run the same route two days in a row.
I’m limited at the gym to the machines I use but I do them in a different order.
4. Enjoyment
If it’s not fun, why do it?
Realistically, some parts of my routine are not fun but I just focus on what was good about it… and enjoy that.
5. Matching Outfit
It may sound silly but I can’t just throw on whatever and go to the gym or for a run.
I plan my outfits and they must match!
What do I skip?
Warm ups and cool downs.
Yup, I get out of my car and go. I finish and get back in my car.

Hydration!
I rarely drink water…. (unless it is very HOT/humid) or in a race).

Happy Running! What are some essentials to your fitness routine and what do you skip? Please share.

Great list!
I can’t eat before I run. I go out too early, so I don’t have much time to let things digest. Which is never great, if you know what I mean. But the post-run treat? Absolutely!

I only run early on weekends. And I leave enough time.

And sometimes it’s only fun when you’re done. Lol.

Although I try to coordinate my fitness outfits, I’m more of a bright color extravaganza free-for-all. Often times, I throw together colors that may clash, but I like the contrast 🙂 As for food/fuel, most of my early workouts are in a fasted state, but I always have something before my long runs or bike rides. And I’m constantly downing the water…before, during, and after.

I could never run fasted… I do take GU during my long runs too.

I’m laughing a little at the ones you skip- HYDRATION??? But, I remember you told me you don’t sweat very much, so maybe you don’t need as much water. I do a quick mobility routine as a warmup (usually) but I don’t do a cool down.

I know, I rarely drink water unless there’s a water stop in a race. I hate to carry it .
