Weekly Run Down for 6.16.24-6.23.24: Heating Up!!

Summer arrived with a vengeance… over 90 degrees most of the week.

Last Week –

  • Sunday – I had not been to the gym in a week so I was glad to be back on those machines

Not that warm out yet but a lovely day to be out on the lake…

my hubby is wearing the hat I won at the 5k the day before… we had a barbecue and I read anther good book (The Mystery Guest)

  • Monday – DAY OFF – Recovering from my week in NYC and started the day (before it got warm) with a run.  Because I skipped my long run on Saturday, I ran 3 miles in the ‘hood followed by 3 more with a friend.

selfie fail but we did try a new place for coffee.

I did lots of errands and got ready for my guest who would be arriving on Wednesday…

I visited with my granddaughter…

9 mos old!

and finally met up with my BFF for a walk.

  • Tuesday – A quick trip to the gym before work…

and a steamy walk with a friend after work.  Searching for shade, we walked at the Arboretum rather than the rail trail.

warm, humid and buggy but pretty…

  • Wednesday – DAY OFF to celebrate Juneteenth…

Unfortunately the gym was closed so I went for a very early run along the river…

I was glad to have company to motivate me to get out of bed but it was slow (my friend’s knee was bothering her)

And then my guest arrived….

yup, another tuxedo kitten to keep Diamond (whom he hasn’t met yet) company… he is very sweet

I spent the afternoon cooling off in a running friend’s pool.

Plan B – Take my walk in the mall (due to the heat and threat of thunderstorms)

  • Thursday – I dragged myself out of bed to get in my run… there was no way I would run after work when it was almost 100 degrees. Again I had company…Yay!

there’s a Pride event this weekend

In the evening, I went to a wine tasting fundraiser… it was to raise $$ for the organization that saves stray kittens/cats (where I got my latest cat).

it was very warm there and we didn’t win any of the raffles but we tasted many local wines and enjoyed the appetizers and cat-themed desserts.

  • Friday – Back to the gym before work and just mah jongg in the evening.
  • Saturday – Long Run Day and Brunch.  Still not long and enjoying that it’s not.

But having FOMO because I usually run a race in Lake George today.

I skipped that race because the hubby and I had to re-schedule our boating on the lake to today.

no rain yet but sooooo humid!!

With all the thunderstorms in the area, we had to cancel boating for this weekend.

it poured most of the afternoon

  • Sunday – Early train to NYC (for work).

My tennis friend is joining me and we plan to spend the day together before she heads out to the Hamptons.

This Coming Week on the Run –

  • Monday – work, run in NYC
  • Tuesday – work, train home
  • Wednesday – GYM, run
  • Thursday – run, Trail walk, out with tennis friends (Salt Den & dinner)
  • Friday – GYM, mah jongg chez moi
  • Saturday Long Run and Brunch
  • Sunday – GYM, boating

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday –  Father’s Day Home Run 5k Race Recap

  1. We are all trying to manage this heat! It’s tough out there. Way to keep moving daily and get it done. Hope this week is a little better for all of us

  2. YOUR NEW KITTY!!!!!!!!!! “Domino” is a great name for a tuxedo cat. I’ll be interested to hear how he and Diamond get along.

The heat is hard if you’re not acclimated to it. Sounds like you did a good job of getting out there in spite of it. Think how easy fall running will be!

  3. Awww, Domino is so cute. I hope he and Diamond get along well when they finally meet.

We’ve just had the high heat here this past week, no rain. I was hoping we’d get some this afternoon, but the storms passed to our north.

    • Thanks. She’s a sweetie.

I was not happy to change my race plans and then not even go to the lake.

      Hope next weekend is better.

  4. We haven’t had any local storms, but there was plenty of rain mid-week. Northwest Iowa got hit hard, though. A new kitty? So cute!!!!

  5. Ahhh, what a cute kitty!! We are also still working on cat friendship at our house. Sam is very interested in playing with and attacking Luna. Luna just hisses back at this point. But they are eating close to each other so hopefully that will ease some of the stress between them.

  6. We were part of that heat wave. Unfortunately the neighborhood pool was closed due to a broken pump so we couldn’t go there to cool off. I wish we would get some rain. It hasn’t rained here in at least a couple of weeks.

  7. Ugh. The heat wave here feels eternal.

I want to go to the Hamptons. I was there once, as a guest of one of my boss’ bosses. They had the house and the personal chef and I need more of that in my life.

NINE MONTHS OLD!!!! HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE! She is too cute and standing up so big! My heart!

Domino is adorable too. I hope it works out!

    • The two cats are not getting along. Hopefully that will change.
I wish I didn’t have to work and I could go to the Hamptons as well.

  8. Awww your granddaughter has gotten so big already! Where have 9 months gone? All the best with Domino! He’s so handsome!

Yes the heat is still on here and it’s supposed to blow up with yet more nasty storms overnight. The struggle is real!
