This week’s topic is: Running Pet Peeves
- Progress is so slow.
When you stop running for a lengthy period of time, your fitness seems to go away so quickly. I mean running 3 miles feels like a marathon.
If you are trying to get faster, don’t get me started…. That plateau seems to last forever.
- Race courses are not accurately described.
Why do race directors feel that they need to describe a course as “fast and flat” when it is obviously not?
Just call it challenging and hilly if it is!!
- Dressing for different seasons during the same season.
It’s easy in the summer as it’s usually warm.
But fall and spring could feel like summer or feel like winter.
Winter is the worse. We could have three seasons in one week.
I’ve been running for a while but I still struggle on dressing correctly…
- Getting slower as you age.
This one is near and dear to my heart.
It happens and we know it will but it’s hard to accept.
- Finding the perfect running partner.
Yes, I have a lot of running friends and racing friends.
Some of my running friends run slower than me, some run faster. One of them who used to run at my pace has decided not to run intervals anymore…
- Race Deferrals.
I know organizing a race is expensive. And many races offer the option of paying extra for insurance if you can’t run the race.
So many races do not as a result offer deferrals and if they do they are costly.
Races are expensive enough so I don’t want to wait until the last minute to sign up and pay more (My issue.)
So if I get injured… 😦
- Shoes.
When you like a style and the next model changes!!
That happened to me often when I wore Mizunos and some other brands. So far so good with Topos.
Happy Running! What are some of your pet peeves? Please share.

Since today is Tuesday, I’m linking up with Zenaida (The Running Teacher) and Jenn (Runs with Pugs).

I’m also linking up here tomorrow:

with co-hosts Coach Debbie Runs, Confessions of a Mother Runner, Mile by Mile, and Runs with Pugs

I can tell you are an experienced runner and racer!
One of my pet peeves is when people seed themselves wrongly in a starting block. They think it doesn’t matter if they’re slower than the rest, but they don’t realize how challenging it can be for the others to get around them.

Yes yes. And when walkers don’t start in the back.

Oh, you picked some good ones! It’s funny you said that about three miles feeling like a marathon, because just yesterday my husband (remember he sprained his ankle in December) came back from a three mile run bitterly complaining about how hard it was.
I run by myself- I think finding the perfect running partner would be so hard! Someone who wants to run when you do, at your pace, with your intervals or whatever… you seem to run with people all the time, but I’m guessing you’re adjusting to their paces a lot.

Yes. We start and eat together. But no one usually to run the whole time.

It is true.. Progress is slow especially when coming back from time off! I am dealing with that now and it can be so frustrating. Learning to embrace the run I am in now… or trying to. I also agree with the struggle on dressing correctly. I am also with you on the shoes. I hate when that happens. My body is so finicky it can spot any change no matter how small and is sure to let me know about it! Great post!

This was so easy. I love running but I guess I have a lot of pet peeves.

Oh, our lists are so different! Excellent point about the shoes! I am still buying the on-sale version of my favorites, just because I don’t know how the next ones will feel!

I know. Lots to complain about but I know we both love running and racing

Some of these are just part of running for so long. We will all get slower at some point. And yes, it is hard to comeback but feels so good when we do!

One of my pet peeves is when races only have awards for top three finishers overall, so no age group awards. I understand it takes time to get businesses to donate awards but I feel like if you’re going to put on a race, you need to take the time to do it right.

That reminds me. I hate 10 year age groups. Also ones like 60-99.

Have to agree with all of those.
I’ll be 60 this fall which I find totally shocking!
But I’m beginning to realize that I need to adjust my expectations.
I will most likely, like 99%, will never run like the 40-year old me did. Even if I get into the best shape of my life.
But I feel like a slacker if I even think about backing off.
I’ve been at marathons and seen walkers in the first 1/4 mile. The start line is still in sight. I’ll be kind and call them morons.

Yup. I’m trying to be happy to cross the finish line. But why am I so slow? lol.

Many good ones here. I hate that you have to pay if you defer a race.
