FFF: Five Challenges to Fitness

Today’s Topic is: Five Challenges to Fitness

1.Time

This is the big one for me… I work 8am-4pm and sometimes I even travel for work.

Then there’s all the commitments and responsibilities that go along with family, pets, friends and home ownership.

snuggle time with Heather too…

2.Money

Gyms cost money as do online fitness memberships.

Races aren’t cheap.

And what about running shoes!?

not mine but you get the picture

3.Weather

This goes along with time. I can’t just run anytime of day.  Short runs and races are ok in the rain but not long runs.

And what about ice and snow?

4.Daylight

Soon it will be dark after I get out of work and that limits the places I can run that are lit and safe.

Now it also too dark to get in anything but a short run before work.

5.Mojo

If I have signed up for a race, my mojo is pretty good and especially if I have company.  But my morning running companion has left for for Florida…

After my Nov. 5 Marathon, my next long race is not until Feb 18, 2024….

Happy Running! What are your fitness challenges now? Please share.

  1. Yes to all of these. I have to remind myself that people with far less time than me still manage to fit in their workouts- so it’s just a matter of figuring it out and making it a priority.
One thing about daylight- soon we’ll turn the clocks back and get more daylight in the early morning! Maybe that will help.

  2. Oh yes… all these are very relevant. For me having appointments with a trainer for my gym sessions it makes it easy because there’s not the option of “not having the time” to go. That hour is a booking in my calendar like anything work-related would be. Now training has become a necessity and need.
When I ran, lack of daylight was a big thing. I used to go out before lunch and then I really felt I killed some of my work day. I much preferred running early in the morning.

  3. Agree with you on all of those. I struggle with running in the winter more than any other season because of the darkness. Many days it’s dark both in the morning before I get to work and dark when I’m leaving work, but also the cold makes it tough.

  4. Ditto to all of these. I planned to get back to running 10K this year, but it just isn’t going to happen. That takes me an hour (plus, I like to do it on a trail that I have to drive to); then I’m sweaty/hungry etc. So really it’s like a 2-hour time commitment…and I just don’t have that right now. So it’s walks to/from school with the kids for me at this point.
