Yes, sunshine. And some clouds. Rain was only forecast for my rest days!! (Of course, there were several unpredicted showers too)
Last Week —
- Sunday – On my schedule was a fun 5k that I’ve run the past two years. But I hadn’t signed up…
I was tempted but I had run 11 miles the day before and so instead I went to the gym.
Finally no rain in the forecast so it was a perfect day for the hubby & I to go boating on the lake.
Guess what? It poured but the storm was short and then the sun came out and dried things up.
- Monday – I got up early and met my running friend Deirdre on the rail trail for a 4 mile run before work.
I had planned to walk with a friend after work but when she mentioned that she’d love to see the sunflowers, I didn’t hesitate (despite the hour drive.)
- Tuesday – A rainy day but that was ok with me since all I had planned was a trip to the gym before work.
Then after work, it wasn’t planned but we decided to buy a car rather than repairing my 13 year old car.
- Wednesday – No time to run before work so I ran 6 miles after work. Deirdre met me again (at a different part of the rail trail)..
At noon, NYRR opened up for selecting your transportation to the start, expo time and bag check option. Did all 60k runners log in?? I waited in the queue for about 30 minutes and then picked. I chose 6:15 am bus. My other option was the subway to 7:45 am ferry, then a bus. One option seems too early and the other too late.
- Thursday – The gym before work and then a lunch morning run… just 2 miles today.
Finally no thunderstorms predicted for our weekly trail run/walk. Thacher Park was the location and it’s our favorite because we go for dinner after at Maple on the Lake.
- Friday – Rainy morning and rest day #2. I headed to the gym before work and then after work, shopped, cleaned the house so I could host mah jongg.
Of course, the sun did come out at lunch when I went outside to weed…
- Saturday – Long Run Day! 12 miles on the plan! I ran the first 8 with Stan & Sherry and then Deidre joined for the last 4. And it rained lightly during most of the run (but it felt good) and the run felt good.
After our runs, Heidi, one of my running friends planned a party at her house (She lives on a lake). Unfortunately the rainy weather kept us indoors so no swimming, kayaking, etc. today. Still it was fun.
Then I picked up my new car (2021 actually):
- Sunday – The gym first thing and if the weather is nice, we’ll go boating…
This Coming Week on the Run (11 Weeks until NYCM)–

Looks like you did a good job of dodging the rain. Those flowers are gorgeous. Congrats on the car! You have the same color as me!

I’m partial to blue cars. My third.

Should be a great day for the lake! I like blue cars, too, but I’m not really super picky about that.

I like it but I didn’t pick the car by the color.

Oooh! A new car! You’ll be loving that.
Nice job on the long run! It sounds like everything is going well with marathon training. It seems like you did get a fair amount of rain this week, but it worked around your runs.
Hope you’re out on the boat right now!

We are out on the lake!
Rain seems to happen anytime of day. But only got wet once and it felt great.

Running before work is best. I’m trying to make it happen.

What lovely sunflowers, I have seen a fair few around here but haven’t gone to the special field yet this year.

Solid week! I know it’s hard to work around weather sometimes. Congratulations on the new car! And the sunflowers are beautiful. We have a house in the neighborhood with a big sunflower patch in the front yard and I love running by there!

I do love sunflowers. This place has 8 acres. But it’s not nearby.

It’s about 45 min away. Near Schagticoke.
Nice weather for the boat today.

Nice new ride! I like the color 😉 Since RAGBRAI, the weather has been more mild, but it turned very hot on Friday and the humidity returned Saturday. It was 103F (feels-like) when we finished our bike ride just before noon, with 95% humidity.

Looks like a fabulous day on the lake! It looks like you had a fun week with a lot of nice activities.
Here the weather has been, eh, not so good, to put it nicely. We had bucketfuls of rain + a nasty storm on Friday. Annoying winds since then but at least ok temps.
That car looks really good! We always had BNW when we lived in Sweden, they’re lovely cars.

Our weather has been up and down. So hard to plan outdoor activities

Woohoo on the new car! Very exciting, and it’s a beautiful color. Your lake looks really pretty – like the perfect summer retreat.

Yes, the lake is very relaxing… not much to do but read, eat, drink, swim.

Love the new car! And now I know what to look for – still laugh when Deirdre told me to meet you at it, but I didn’t know what you drove. I can’t believe you still have that skirt – saw it in our pic from four years ago. Mine long died from the scratchy legs
My feed and transportation week. So bad!

Which skirt – there were two scratchy ones? I don’t wear either often and only for short runs.

What a week! I think we have a hurricane coming at some point. I don’t even know. It’s just hot. I hate buying cars but I love having them. There is something about the smell. i hope it gives you lots and lots of safe miles!

Thanks. I agree. Buying is stressful. Glad to have a reliable vehicle.

Congrats on your new car, it’s very pretty!
It’s great that you were finally able to enjoy boating on the lake. Seems like you’ve had lots of rain on Sundays so your days on the water have been limited this summer.
