Twice a year (February and July), I take time off from my regular 8-4 job and work for the software company that applicants use to take the NYS Bar Exam.
So that’s what I did this past week.
Last Week —
- Sunday – I headed to the gym first thing in the morning.
After two rainy Sundays in a row, today was perfect.
- Monday – I had predicted a crazy work week so I decided to move my 5 miler to this morning… luckily my friend Deirdre agreed to get up early too to run.
Then I dropped my car off at the dealer and worked a half day.
After lunch, I met my friends Heidi and Sherry for a short hike in Pittsfield, MA…
- Tuesday – Rest Day and day 1 at the Bar Exam.
Long.Day.
- Wednesday – Back to my regular job but not working from home… teaching a live class.
Tired from standing all day but needed to get some fresh air and some miles.
- Thursday – Day 2 at the Bar Exam with a later start and earlier finish than Tuesday.
I thought I might squeeze in a run first thing but nope I delayed it until after work. It rained on and off all afternoon but there was brief pause …
We hoped that the predicted thunderstorms would hold off so we could get in our weekly trail run/walk. But we were so indecisive about going…
Instead, we bailed and just took a walk and went out to dinner…

It poured before our walk but never rained again the entire evening… we finished off the day with ice cream sandwiches from the cookie truck.
- Friday – Rest Day and similar to to Tuesday (Day 3 at the Bar exam). I did some walking laps around the building but that’s about it…
In the evening I went out to play mah jongg…
- Saturday – Long Run Day! We started earlier than usual but still it was the hardest one to date… due to extreme humidity. I ran the first 4-5 miles with Barbara, Lisa, Stan and Sherry and then sprinted ahead just to get the 9 miles done before meeting the others for brunch (That was the best part of the run. LOL)
It rained hard off and on the rest of the day… and temps dropped about 20 degrees…
- Sunday – I plan to return to the gym after a week off and definitely go to the lake with friends.
This Coming Week on the Run (14 Weeks until NYCM)–
- Monday – run
- Tuesday – GYM, rest day
- Wednesday -run
- Thursday – run, trail run/walk
- Friday – GYM, rest day, mah jongg
- Saturday – Long Run (10 mies)
- Sunday – GYM, rest day, boating?
This Coming Week on the Blog –
- Tuesday – Favorite IG Pictures
- Friday – Ultimate Coffee Date

Ooh, your long runs are getting up there! Nice job getting in 9 miles on such a hot day. And what is this peanut butter stout??? I’m intrigued.
I’ll be interested to know what you think of Hello Beautiful. I’ve heard mixed reviews, but the people who like it REALLY love it. I almost read it- I had it out of the library but had too many books going at the same time so had to return it unread. I’ll get back to it at some point though.

I liked the book a lot. Though sad.
I’m not a big beer drinker. But this tastes great.

Even just walking yesterday had me drenched in sweat. Enjoy the lake — much nicer day today, for sure.

It was not great running weather but sometimes you just do it.
Today was awesome.

I can usually handle the humidity alright ,but I was really glad to be on the bike most of last week. It was crazy hot and humid in Iowa!

We had a hot and humid week here too, but it wasn’t too bad when I would go out running. You had a good week even with the weather! enjoy the water!

I definitely enjoyed the lake today. Unfortunately it was the best weather for running we’ve had in awhile.

Great week of workouts, Darlene, despite how busy you were with work. It was very hot and humid here this past week, but we got a break today. I’m finding the heat and humidity doesn’t bother me as much now that I’m older. Go figure!

I need to run in the morning but it was hard. This week I’ll try harder.
Today was lovely… but it was a rest day. sigh.

I wish I had your energy! What a full week you had.
I loved Hello Beautiful so much. The setting, in Chicago, was also nice.

The humidity is sucking my soul dry. I want to just hermit until winter.

I know the feeling but at least ours was only ONE week. Cooler now.

Way to get in all the activities despite the ridiculous heat. I am not a fan of humidity but I don’t want to wish away summer either. Our winters are way too long.

So true… winters seem to last forever and besides it’s cooler this week.

Just added that book to my kindle, I needed an idea! Great job on the long run in the heat. The peanut butter stout sounds delicious, I haven’t had a stout in awhile, it’s a little harder to find good craft beer here. Which is fine, as I usually prefer wine 🙂

I prefer wine too. But I have now developed a taste for chocolate stout. Who knew?

lots of stuff going on – glad you could also meet up with friends. the humidity is off the charts here because when it actually stops raining it’s just acting like it wants to rain again. This is the first summer since I bought my A/C unit that we’ve used the dehumidifier more… jeeeez.
great week Darlene!
