Longer Days! Sunshine! Flowers! Boating!
What’s not to love?
Maybe humidity and higher temps.. just means adjusting and running early (and slower).
Last Week —
- Sunday – I started the day at the gym…
Since it was Father’s Day, I let the hubby decide what he wanted to do… and it was tennis.
So I did errands, laundry, cleaning, gardening and eventually a short hike.
- Monday – Juneteenth Holiday so I had the day off from work.. It was very convenient since I ran a 5k on Saturday instead of a Long Run.
And so today I did my Long Run. I was glad to have the company of two friends.
I spent the rest of my day off, weeding and knitting… Yup, a baby blanket for my granddaughter!!! The pattern is very easy so I should be able to get it done before Sept. 5…
After dinner, I went for a walk with my BFF.
- Tuesday – Gym was closed yesterday so I went there before work today.
I took the day off from running so I could go to our monthly tennis dinner.
- Wednesday – I decided to run before work rather than going to the gym.

My friend Deirdre met me on the rail trail but I forgot to get her pic so you have one of my cat Champ instead…
And after work, I had signed up for this:
It turned to be a private tour since no one else signed up. If you know Albany, this park is located in one of least safe neighborhoods in the city…
- Thursday – Another early morning run…

a little too warm but much better than later in the day… ran a little on the rail trail, a little on a dirt trail and a little in the ‘hood.
and then after work, our weekly trail run was scheduled.
As usual, most of the participants ran it (and I could have on this trail but I had already run in the morning so I walked it with some friends).
- Friday – Rest day from running but a trip to the gym before work.
Mah jongg in the evening and getting ready for my race the next day. Will it rain??
- Saturday – Adirondack 7M Race to the Lake. First time for this course that was changed from a 15k to a 7 miler (with the hills removed at the beginning). Still very hilly until the last 1.5 miles but it ends at Lake George.
The predicted rain never happened until I was done but it was warm and oppressively humid.
In the evening, the hubby and I went out to dinner to celebrate a friend’s hubby’s b-day.
- Sunday – Fingers crossed for boating weather… (though it doesn’t look good) but if not, then hopefully some dry time for hiking and gardening.
This Coming Week on the Run–
- Monday – DAY OFF – run early, hiking with friends

Champ is beautiful! No running for me this weekend as we have had a problem with the locks on the front door and I don’t feel safe going out and leaving it (we have bolts and chains on the inside so fine here). Super-humid here at the moment though so no real loss. Couldn’t imagine racing in this so well done!

It was so hard. Not used to humidity.
Hope you get your locks fixed so you can head out for a run soon.

It rained all day here yesterday so maybe you got lucky (although rain might’ve felt nice). We really needed that rain though!

It rained there too but not early enough. Yes rain would have felt great.

Congrats on another race! Curious why they changed the course distance? 7 miles is so random!
Tivoli Park looks beautiful! It’s nice that the city keeps it up. The neighborhoods where I ran my recent half are also not very safe but the boulevards and parks are beautiful.

Tivoli is very nice just not safe.
Runners complained about the hilly loop at the beginning. In that humidity 7 miles felt like 20.

Your cat is so cute! It’s too bad Tivoli Park isn’t safe. It looks really nice. It’s miserable when it’s so humid but won’t rain. That race sounds very challenging.

I guess I’m not good in the humidity. It was challenging for everyone

Congrats on completing another race! Looking forward to reading your recap on Tuesday. Was this your first 7-mile race? If so, automatic PR!

Interesting about the 15K being shortened to 7M — did people complain about the hills? Did more people sign up for the new route?
Wow on the private tour — it does look like a lovely place.
I think DC has an arboretum in a part of town I won’t go to ….

It is nice but safe to go alone.
Not sure if people complained but the attendance did increase. But it may be related to more people racing in general.

Looks like another great week for you. Congrats on another race – 7M is an unusual distance – what did you think?

It was so humid that I was glad to not run longer.

You know I’m a NYC addict. I love cities and I love remote areas. There is no in between for me.
Hope your hubby had a great Father’s Day!
It’s crazy that that beautiful park is in a dangerous part of a town. That makes me sad.

I love both too.

Humidity is hard. I was just listening to a podcast where they were talking about running at altitude, and they said running in humidity is similar, because you get less oxygen from the air. So… that’s why your race was hard. I’m looking forward to the recap!
I love the baby blanket and am very excited about this upcoming grandbaby! I’m starting to want grandkids, but I have a few years to wait.

I’m not used to humidity… It was worse today but in a race for some reason, you feel like to you run faster.
I’m excited to finally have a grandchild…

not a fan of the humidity at all. And in fact I’m tolerating it even less the last couple of years to where I just don’t want to be out at all. Of course I do go out…
great job this week – that park in Albany looks amazing.

I think I tolerate it less too.

Yes. Heat and humidity can suck the life out of your runs.
But there are so many pluses.
