We’ve had some warm days here and there (mostly on my race days lol) but this week, most days were warm and muggy!!
Not complaining. (I could live in the South!)
Last Week:
- Sunday – Boating Sunday!
Another perfect weather day! And the fix for the boat was a quick one. Phew!
- Monday – The second Monday off in my new work schedule. My hiking buddy Heidi was not available but my friend Deirdre was able to accommodate my whim. And off to Lenox, MA we went.
Our first stop was Pleasant Valley Nature Sanctuary but this time to climb Lenox Mountain.
After lunch in Lenox, we hiked at Basin Pond in Lee.
We ended the day with ice cream (at the same place as last time).
I got home too late for the group run so I dragged myself out for run (as the sun was setting) since rain was predicted for Tuesday.
- Tuesday – Rest Day!! But where was the rain?? We didn’t get those predicted severe thunderstorms… just a little rain around 4 pm.
So I settled for a walk at the outdoor mall in my BFF.
- Wednesday – After Monday’s struggle in the heat of the evening, I decided to get my run done before work. Much nicer, I’m sure but still it was warm and HUMID!!!
I forgot to download a Peloton run so I listened to one of Ali on the Run’s podcasts. Here’s some advice from an élite runner who had some very disappointing races so just entered a race with no expectations:
Racing is the fun part of what we do… We put too much pressure on ourselves to do certain things… Race just to race.
Now I hope I can remember that…
Instead of a run, I went for a walk on the rail trail with two friends.
- Thursday – No time to run during my work day (plus so hot during lunchtime) so I ran right after work on the rail trail.
Then I joined my friends at the ARE trail run (or walk for us).
- Friday – Rest Day!!
- Saturday – Long Run Saturday! Unfortunately many of my friends were busy today. But there were still a few of us left to gather for brunch. I ran intervals with Deb an then met Barbara and Denise after.
- Sunday – Boating Sunday!!
This Coming Week on the Run–
- Monday – run
- Tuesday – rest day, hair appt
- Wednesday – run
- Thursday – run, ARE trail walk
- Friday – rest day, mah jongg
- Saturday – Long Run (or 5k + 5 miles)
- Sunday – rest day, boating

Sounds like a great week! Love that you have friends who will go hiking.

I am lucky. I used to go alone most of time but it much more fun (and safer) to go with a friend.

For me it’s easier to run earlier. I do not enjoy evening running and it really messes with my sleep, too. You do a good job getting out there in the heat.
Glad the boat was an easy fix.

I can run early. But I don’t enjoy running alone. So the subject of my Friday post.
But I get done working at 4 pm. Not exactly bed time. Lol

I’m definitely not in bed by 4. But I am by 9 most nights & 6 pm activity makes it very difficult for me to sleep.

Great week for you despite the steamy conditions. I love that elite’s advice. If it’s not fun, why do it? So many people put SO much pressure on themselves. I am not one of them! Haha!

Yes. It is supposed to be fun. It used matter more to me.

I agree with Marcia…we need to love what we’re doing, or what’s the point? I love racing, but I refuse to treat each and every race as a contest between myself and others. It’s not in my nature, besides I just enjoy the camaraderie (if I run strong, then it’s a success whether I place or not). I’d love to have options for hiking…lucky you!

Yes yes. That’s my attitude. It’s why I don’t obsess about training hr, and all the rest.
I’m lucky with all the nearby trails and hiking options.

What lovely photos, especially the flowers, very cheering! We’re having a proper heatwave here in the UK and it’s not great as we’re not accustomed to it (80s earlier in the week and 86 high today, then 95-99 tomorrow and Tuesday before it’s meant to break) so I’m trying to keep sane and keep cool without running to keep me sane!

I hear you. Hard to keep sane without a run.
Hope you are able to squeeze a few in as the temps allow.

Those pictures from your hike are amazing! And the pictures from your boat, and well, the flowers as well. You have a lot of pretty scenery.
Great advice about racing- I have fun pushing myself, but at the end of the day it’s supposed to be enjoyable so I don’t get too worked up about it.

It’s been super hot here this week as well. We’re also in a bit of a drought as it hasn’t rained here in about 3 weeks, or maybe even a little longer. I hope we get some rain this week.
Love that advice from the elite athlete. My running looks way different now than it did a few years ago, but that’s fine because what I’m doing now still makes me happy.

It much more important to be happy.
I hope it rains but at night. Lol.

You know I’ve changed my running quite a bit over the last couple of years—much less time on the road and more time on the trails. Not only do I love the time in nature, but it’s fun! And that’s what counts. Now, if I could stop hurting myself, lol.
Take it easy in the heat this week!

Yes. Please heal and stay injury free.
I’ve come to appreciate nature more as I’ve gotten older.

Looks like a great week! Your hike in Lenox and Lee looks like a lot of fun – I need to drive out that way…it’s been a while.

I am too tired to exercise at night but it is nice that you mix it up. It is warming up around here too! Love that you are hiking again too-enjoy!

I’m happy to have more hiking opportunities.
I’m tired too. But you do it when you can.

I live in the South. You can complain. It’s miserable. I want to go back to the mountains where there’s no humidity and everything is nicer. No races planned. My whole weekend got turned upside down, so now I need to see if I can swap in some different plans.

You always find fun things to do.
It may be humid here but I know it’s worse for others.
