Ultimate Coffee Date for July

It’s that time of the month…

to join up with Coco & Deborah for their ultimate coffee date.

1.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I have upped my daily miles so I can take time off.

I signed up for the NYS 1000k Challenge which means 6 miles a day.

I have enough accumulated miles so that I only have to run/walk 5 miles a day.

Running 10 miles on Saturdays means that I can take Sundays off!!!

not many steps will be taken while sitting on my boat or on a Lake George island.

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that my original Pandemic Goal was to finish as many trails and preserves as possible.  I had set my goal at 25 new places which I reached pretty quickly and then thought of upping it to 50.

Now I decided that instead of adding a lot of new places, I’m going to re-visit the ones I like most.  Besides, the trails look radically different in the summer than they did back in March.

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I started seeing my friends about a month ago.  Many people may have thought it was risky.

I am still healthy and so are my family and friends and mentally, I feel so much better with social contact.  My runs are better, my hikes more enjoyable yada yada yada.

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I feel really bad for all those signed up for fall marathons that have been cancelled esp. NYC and those running their first. I know it’s the right thing to do…but…

NYC Marathon Canceled Over COVID-19, Just Too Risky

It’s a big step in committing to training and running 26.2 miles.

You can’t imagine how glad I am NOW that I took the plunge and ran NYC LAST YEAR. To think, I was hesitating… CARPE DIEM!!

lucky us!!!!

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I now have quite a collection of Virtual/Pandemic Race Swag.  I’m not sure if I care??

I may want to forget this year totally.

  1. Interesting, I am thinking about taking the opposite approach to running — running few miles more/every day. It takes me 20 min to walk Scooby or 35 to run 3 miles with him. Since I’m not commuting those extra 15 min don’t matter. I bet the trails look so different — I’d be focusing on the shady ones in this weather.

Thanks for joining us for coffee. I’m still spooked from meeting up with friends since I was about to suggest meeting up with a friend and then she had covid-19, but that was 2 months ago and our cases are going down here — at least for now.

    • Yes me too. Trails are the places for shade. Unfortunately I am afraid to run on trails.

I want to run longer but I never seem to have the time…and lately it’s always about to start to thunderstorm.

  2. That’s a great idea to revisit the trails…they will look much different now. I have all my virtual swag hanging with my “real” stuff, and it does look odd. Like a bunch of “posers” pretending to be real LOL I figured, I did the work…so they’re staying there for now. I’m so glad I did MCM last year (even in the rain)…that would have been a buzzkill to not be able to run it this year.

  3. I’m so glad you got to run NYC last year too. I think there will be some small races happening this fall but no big ones like NYC. I just got an email for a marathon and half that are happening in South Dakota in August. It’s an all women’s race and it’s tiny. I went with a group of friends 10 years ago and still get emails from the RD. It was actually one of my favorite races. I loved seeing the photos of your trails. I am all about trails lately.

    • That’s great if you can do that race. I’m hoping for our group race in NH in Oct. Fingers crossed.

    • I know. I would be upset if I had decided to wait a year to run. I have a friend who had cancer last year and had to postpone. Really sad for her.

  5. I mostly run the same trail and it changes every time I run it!

Carpe Diem indeed! Which is why I jumped on the Ice Age 50k. Who knows if I’ll ever get the chance or feel this good again?

  6. I wasn’t surprised to see that the NYC Marathon was canceled – who would have thought that would ever happen again after Hurricane Sandy? So crazy.

Love all of your virtual race swag!

  7. I’m a little tired just thinking about 1000k, haha. Major props to you!! :] I’m hoping to start visiting more nearby trails/parks/preserves on the weekends, but it’s been a slow-going process. I love seeing them during the changes in seasons though (they’re not as pronounced here in CA, but still noticeable! 😛 ).
