Four Somethings for March

January 2018 Share Foru Somethings #ShareFourSomethings

Thanks to Laurie from Meditations in Motion, I discovered a link up started by blogger Heather Gerwing. The fourth Saturday of each month, Heather invites other bloggers to share their “Four Somethings”: Something Loved, Something Said, Something Learned, Something Read. If you are a blogger, you may post your Four Somethings too!

Oops I’m a little late…

1. Something Loved.

My Visit to Montreal.  NYC is my favorite city. I used to take my students (as I was a French teacher) to Montreal often years ago.  I also ran a race there a few years ago.

But this time, I went with a friend as a spur of the moment weekend get away.

We explored the city. I ran, of course. We attended the interactive Van Gogh  exhibit (the highlight of the trip) as well as the Barbie expo (1000 Barbies all in one place.) We ate some delicious French meals and drove to the top of Mont Royal.

Have you been to Montreal lately? If so, what did you do there?

2. Something Said.

3. Something Learned.

I cannot retire yet.

I hate staying home day after day and I love being around people and having a schedule.

I even miss wearing nice clothes and makeup.

my office with only my cat to talk to

Do you enjoy staying at home? What do miss when you are forced to stay home?

4. Something Read.

Running with Sherman: The Donkey with the Heart of a Hero by [McDougall, Christopher]

I recently finished reading this book.

The best-selling author of Born to Run, Chris McDougall agreed to take in a donkey from an animal hoarder after he and his family moved from Philadelphia to the heart of Pennsylvania Amish country. In order to heal this neglected donkey, Chris had to give it a job which turned out to be running and competing in a race. A lot could go wrong and did.

I didn’t love it as much as I expected. It was drawn out and too much back story. Not as much about running as I had hoped.

That being said, it was interesting and at times, heart-warming.  So I would still recommend reading it yourself.

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think?

There is a link-up organized by Zenaida and Kim (Kooky Runner).

Since today is Tuesday, I’m linking up with these ladies.

Happy Running! What are your FOUR somethings? Share at least ONE.

  1. I just loved Running with Sherman! Having read Born to Run, by the same author, I expected a lot of backstory–he’s a reporter by trade– and I found it interesting. I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t like it as much as I did.

    • I didn’t dislike it at all. Just expected it to be different. I didn’t read his first one. I heard him on a podcast and lot if what he said was repeated in the book.

  2. This is a great link-up – thanks for bringing it to my attention!
I am also not a huge fan of working from home so much, but a few days a week I will get dressed like I’m actually going to work. I know I’m just getting dressed to sit at my desk but it makes me feel better.

  3. Sherman is on my list. For some reason WFH really agrees with me, I’ve found a good rhythm – work out ==> go to work ==.walk the dog/have lunch ===>more work ==> stop when it’s dinner time. A lot of the people that I interact with during the day work in a different office so my main contacts have always been remote. My go to is starting the work day in my jammies and then getting dressed for lunch/dog walk.

    • I’m in a rhythm as well. Work walk work run or walk. But I’m tied to a computer. Usually I’m out and about interacting with people.

  4. I love that saying. Wish more people would heed it.

As for staying at home, I’m used to it and fairly comfortable, but dang, I do miss the ability to run out to shop or go out to dinner – or to have Saturday breakfast with my friends.

  5. Oh, gosh! It feels like you trip to Montreal was a lifetime ago! I can’t believe it was March.

I’m doing fine at home. I’m so used to it at this point. I’ve almost forgotten what it’s like to be in real clothes and out and around people. It’s going to be hard for me to get back out there, after all this time.

  6. Oh Darlene, you can still wear makeup and “get dressed” even if you’re working from home 😉 Studies show that sticking to a routine, and “dressing for success” will enhance your work as well as your mentality. Easy for me to say, right? I’m still reporting to “the office” every morning LOL I just know I feel more productive if I dress the part. Anyways, keep on keeping on…this will be but a memory someday (hopefully sooner than later).

    • one of the pluses of working from home is that I can wear my running clothes all day…so easy to get in a lunch or after work run (no need to change clothes) lol

  7. I have learned so many things in the last year that it’s amazing my head hasn’t exploded. And I’m still learning.

I don’t at all miss dressing up, but then again, I really never had to — except the one year I worked for the government and when I was a WW leader. I rarely ever wear makeup, either.

  8. I’ve never been to Montreal but only to Toronto and Vancouver. I haven’t read the book you mentioned but have read “Born to Run”. It will be almost one month since schools were cancelled. I’ve been learning so many new things that have to do with remote learning so now I feel like a pro. 🙂

Thank you for linking up with us and I am sorry for responding so late.
