March 17, 2018 CANCELLED
Remember how I signed up for this race months ago, planned a vacation visiting friends who live nearby…
Then this happened:
The Suck:
- Losing my registration fee for the race (no refund, just can register for another of their races…great if I lived in Fla.)
Update: I complained on FB and now they say they will refund my money 🙂 - Not running over a bridge twice with a view of the Atlantic Ocean.
- Two different friends who are staying in Singer Island would be cheering me on.
- Was planning on attending a Mets spring training game afterwards.
- Am staying for 2 nights after in Delray Beach – not too far away
- I could have gone to Fla. at a different time and run a different race (and be able to run the NYC Half this weekend)
- Brew-2-Brew (see my lemonade below) is an inaugural race (and you know my past experience with those…RnR Brooklyn comes to mind among others.)
- No reviews or course info, etc about said race.
- More $$ needed to spend on registering for this new race.
- I don’t drink beer!!!
This my LEMONADE:
Vero Beach’s first ever Brew-2-Brew 13.1 mile, half marathon.
Beginning and ending at the local owned Walking Tree Brewery.
I could have skipped the race thing entirely or I could have cancelled my trip but instead I MAY sign up for this race. (I haven’t registered yet since the numbers for this race are low. )
The Good:
- I was able to book another hotel with my points.
- I’ve never been to Vero Beach.
- My sister-in-law lives in nearby Sebastien.
- I will be running a half marathon!
- My training will not go to waste.
- My vacation will be a race-cation after all.
Was this the right decision?… To Be Determined.

Happy Running! Has this every happened to you? What would you do if you were me?
I saw that race, but like you the “inaugural” made me hesitant. Plus I’ll be staying on the other coast. Nope, going to take it easy that weekend!

Relaxing is good. In fact not seeing snow and ice is good. Next year I hope to go to the other coast. Maybe we can plan something.

You never know what you’ll get with inaugural races, but I’ve had both good and bad experiences!

Mine have all been not so great but you never know.

No that has never happened to me! There is a huge inaugural women’s half and 8k in April here. I am wondering how that is going to go. I hope you are able to find something that works for you without being out too much $$

I hope so too

I’m doing an inaugural race in Waco, so even if it’s not so great, I’m not out travel expenses (it’s less than two hours to drive there) – I’ve had great experiences with a couple of inaugural, and then there were some where you could tell that the learning curve was still being established. Still, it could be great and who knows, they might overcompensate to draw runners in!

You just may be pleasantly surprised and be treated to some tasty lemonade (and maybe even some pie for dessert). 😉 Not an ideal situation, but it sounds like you’re making the best out of it.

I’m trying. Not thrilled.

That’s good that the cancelled race is refunding your money! It’s crazy that they tried to say they wouldn’t refund at first. This new race sounds like it has the potential to be fun, very cool that it starts and ends at a brewery 🙂

Good decision! I’d be sad not to be running over that bridge tho!

That is so very disappointing! You are definitely doing your best to make good of a crappy situation, and I am really glad they are refunding your money. It’s the right thing for them to do.
I wish I was able to get down there to meet you! Hopefully one one of your next trip’s down, it will work out!

Yes. Definitely. I would love to meet up.

Man! That would tick me off having the race cancelled like that. I’m glad you have a backup race though. No training ever goes to waste though!

I am having a hard time motivating myself to train.

Well that does stink. I’m glad you are (hopefully) getting your money back.
