TT: DST & Running

Sunday, March 9, 2025

The Bad News:

  • You lose an hour of sleep on Saturday night March 8.
  • It’s darker in the mornings. No running for me.
  • As a result, it’s now colder in the mornings. Nope, not for me.
  • Rock N Roll DC half starts at 8am on March 15. Brrrr.

The Good News:

  • The Electric City 10k is March 8. (no lost sleep yet)

fingers crossed the weather is better this year

  • It’s lighter after I get out of work so I can run anywhere (if the ice/snow ever melts).

  • In the summer, it will be cooler in the mornings (so I can adapt to running in the heat.)

Happy Running! How has DST affected you running? Please Share.

  1. This is a good reminder that the US will be changing their clocks this weekend! Europe always does it on the last weekend of the month (March / October) and South Africa doesn’t do it at all (imagine the chaos, ha!).
Have fun on your 10k this Saturday!

  2. Okay, I’ll concede one point- it will make summer running a little cooler. I’m still going to complain this weekend though! (and all next week… and the week after…)

  3. It’s just a little harder for me to wake up earlier in the dark, but I usually get my groove back. I’m making an effort to adjust myself before the weekend. I’ll be housesitting so it won’t be a huge deal.

  4. I am not a fan of DST. As a morning runner I know it will be dark now when I run before work. At least I started running with my dog so I do feel safe when I run early.
