Weekly Run Down for 3.3.24-3.10.24: Let There Be Light!

We turned the clocks ahead last night!!

It will be worth losing an hour of sleep for many reasons:

  • My cats will sleep later.
  • I can run anywhere after work.
  • It’s closer to when the flowers will bloom.
  • It will be warmer (hopefully).

Now if only the rain would stay away at the times I need to run…

Last Week –

  • Sunday – Just a visit to the gym…
  • Monday – It was a day off from work.  I normally would be hiking with my running friend Heidi but she was away,  Instead I contacted my friend Sherry and she agreed to go run with me.

although I planned to run the whole 4 miles with no walks, the humidity got to me but I was super glad for the company and the challenge…

Then in the evening, it was the 3rd week of STEM mentoring.

post run/walk stretching…

  • Tuesday – A morning visit to the gym before work and after work, a planned outdoor walk with a friend (whom I hadn’t seen in a long time). Rain got in the way of our plans so we walked inside at the gym and then I rewarded myself with a Shamrock Shake.
  • Wednesday – Another rainy forecast but I managed to squeeze my run in before work (had to work off that Shake).

the jacket, hat and gloves didn’t last long… another humid run… and a great way to start the day!!!

  • Thursday – Today I had to teach in the classroom

decided to try one of the new lavender coffees… meh… anyone else try it?

That meant my run had to happen after work.  No sweat because it was light enough to run anywhere (at least for just a few miles). And the rain had stopped. I was hoping for company but my running friend had to cancel so I was solo.

I was pooped from standing all day but it got done

  • Friday – Another live teaching day so there was only a quick walk at lunch and then mah jongg in the evening.

back to my favorite drink

  • Saturday – Long Run and brunch day.. Last long run before the big race.  I wanted to run 10 miles. Again, rain was predicted but I was hoping like last week, we could get it done.

We did and I was happy to have company on the run and join others after for brunch…

a windy gray day…my legs were toast from standing all day Thurs and Fri and so I only ran 8 miles, then walked/ran another mile… 9 miles will have to do… as they say “the hay is in the barn”

Afterward, I had to squeeze in laundry, grocery shopping and a nail appt…

In the evening, I had bought a ticket to see this play with friends. Glad we went as it was really good!

A Shayna Maidel, Yiddish meaning “pretty girl,” tells the story of the reunion of two sisters after World War II, one having survived the Nazi concentration camps.

  • Sunday –  It will be a gym visit… and I may start packing and weather stalking…

This Coming Week on the Run –

  • Monday – run, STEM mentoring
  • Tuesday – GYM
  • Wednesday – run (after work)
  • Thursday – run (after work)
  • Friday – GYM, mah jongg
  • Saturday – train to NYC, expo, carb load…
  • Sunday – NYC Half Marathon!

This Coming Week on the Blog –

  • Tuesday –  Bob and Brad Massage Gun Review
  • Friday – Where I’d Love to Run

Happy Running! Training for any big or small races?  How’s the weather where you live? How do you feel about DST? Please share.

  1. Our weather has been up and down. When we get warm weather, we pay for it with snow or a wicked storm. It is looking more like spring here so I’m going with it. Sounds like you had a busy week!

  2. Looks like a great week, Darlene! The little rain we’ve had has been enough. I’d forgotten (temporarily) just how cold a 40F rain feels compared to a true summer rain, LOL.

  3. Our weather has been a bit crazy, but the week ahead looks sunny and temps that are warmer so looking forward to that! I have tried a blueberry lavender coffee and it tasted like blueberry pancakes and coffee… I loved it!

Can’t wait to hear about your race!

  4. I’m not a fan of turning the clocks ahead, but you made a good point- at least the cats will sleep later now. Oh, and I’ve seen those lavender drinks at Starbucks- they sound kind of gross. I’m not a fan of lavender.
I’m excited for your race! Yes, the hay is in the barn. I hope you have a great time!

  5. I had to work around the rain with my gardening, but it all worked out – I stalked the weather like any good runner. 😉

Good luck at your race! Can’t wait to hear all about it.

I’m with you on liking the switch to DST.

  6. We’ve had a lot of rain recently — today it’ sunny but windy.

I miss the morning light more than I look forward to the evening light, since I work until 6 or 7 anyway.

    Good luck with the race!

    • I want to run more in the morning so we’ll see how that goes since I don’t run in the dark. But most of the time I have to run after work.

  7. Sounds like you had some good benefits of switching the clocks! I really don’t mind because I like the lighter evenings, and the morning light catches up quite soon. We switch our clocks the last weekend of March here.
The weather here is cold and miserable, it’s still like winter and I’m very annoyed about it. But I have my Bulgarian squats to focus on so I’ll get by! Hopefully it’ll warm up soon.
Enjoy your week ahead and those evening runs!

  8. Solid week for you, for sure!

    That play sounds powerful.

I had my Shamrock Shake a few weeks ago. Now I’m good for another year LOL.

The time change goes ok for me. It’s harder to get up and out when it’s dark, but this year, it came right before Spring Break, so at least I have some time to ease into the routine.

  9. I’m trying to figure out what your standard Starbucks order is. I haven’t tried the lavender drink, but I don’t think I will. We had a lavender coffee in Washington last summer and none of us liked it! I think we tossed half of it (gasp!!). I haven’t had my Shamrock shake (or McFlurry!) yet. I am slacking!!

  10. Awesome week Darlene! Lots of fresh air and activities 🙂

There are Starbucks here of course, but I don’t go nearly as much as I did in the U.S.. There are so man other coffee shops to check out. But then I miss out on the new hottest thing, like lavender coffee!!

    • Some folks liked the lavender and some not. Chocolate cream cold brew is still my fave.

I agree. I would try all the new things if I lived somewhere else.
