Since today is Tuesday, I’m also linking up with these wonderful ladies:

Today’s Topic is: Winter Motivation.
All I usually do on this blog every winter is complain about how cold it is and how I hate it! I mean I live in the NE, I should expect it to be cold and snowy.
So to motivate myself to enjoy this winter more, I decided to point out what is great about winter running:
1. It doesn’t usually rain.

not a fan of rain!!
I will run in the snow and cold but I will not run in the rain. Hence, no rain is a good thing for my running.

happier here
2. You don’t sweat (as much).
So I have less laundry because I can wear my running clothes more than once.

However, it is a challenge to pack everything you may need to wear.
And I can run after work, change my clothes and then go out with friends (Don’t judge LOL).
3. It’s pretty outside.
Well, at least most of the time.
4. There are free races (in my area.)
Race fees add up. I am lucky that our local running group (HMRRC) sponsors 6 free races during the winter. There are 3 distances to choose from at each race.
It’s informal so it’s just a run with friends and with good food after.
5. There’s not a lot to do in the winter and it’s get me outside.
In the summer, there’s boating, biking, hiking, tennis, gardening…many things to do outdoors.
But in the winter, I don’t ski, ice skate, snowshoe or snowmobile. Running is my only outdoor activity.

so they say…
This week I am also joining up with Running on Happy, Suzlyfe, Crazy Running Girl, and Coach Debbie Runs each week for the Coaches’ Corner linkup
I’d much rather run in cold than heat (although not fond of either). And I do still sweat, so it’s actually more laundry with all those layers. I do get out to walk the dogs except when it’s too cold for them or too icy/slushy/snowy — still, most of the time we’re out there walking every day.
And I embrace the treadmill (just not all the time).

I change my inner shirt but wear the bottoms and jackets many many days in a row. You can see from my work pics – same capris everyday…less to pack.

Nope, can’t do it, except for jackets — but not actual tops.

My winters aren’t usually as cold and snowy as yours so I look forward to it! and I like to walk a lot more in winter because I don’t drip in sweat just opening the door lol

Running is my only outdoor activity in the Winter too. I like that it gets me outside when I would otherwise be stuck inside all the time. And I love the peacefulness of Winter mornings when there’s snow. Everything is so beautiful and dreamlike.

I agree. I am glad that I have running as my outlet. Though I prefer to look at the snow than run through it.

I’d much rather run in the winter vs. summer for the reasons that you outlined!

I actually prefer the warm weather but where I live, I need to make the best of our long winter season.

Besides the fact that winter is truly challenging when it comes to running and working out, your post is a very inspiring one. Excellent tips and motivation points which I really consider true, Darlene!

I’ll take cold over hot running any day as well. As long as it’s not slippery I’m good!

I probably run better when it’s cold but I don’t enjoy it as much.

I just couldn’t do a cold weather post yet. I’d rather run in the summer than the winter. It’s so gray and dreary here…

Same. But the cold weather is coming tomorrow night.

I have a lot more laundry in the winter because of all the layers and also I still sweat like a fiend, but I’m happy to run in cooler weather, so I don’t complain about it.

I hate all the layers. My bag weighs a ton.

Well, we all know I much prefer summer, but I can handle winter. As I said on my Instagram post…you’re only cold when you’re standing still 😉 I’ll take the bitter butt cheeks freezing temps over a heated treadmill run any day.

Totally with you on that.

My favorite seasons to run in are spring and fall… just wish they’d stretch out longer, lol. Hey, good luck this weekend. I hope you have a fabulous time!

Thanks. Unfortunately spring and fall are too short.

I prefer winter running over summer running, but I’d like a few more days of fall running!
