Friday Five: Favorite Clothes

Every Friday, three DC area bloggers Mar at Mar On the Run, Cynthia at You Signed Up For What?! and Courtney from Eat Pray Run, DC to host the Friday Five linkup.  Anyone can join with their own Friday Five post (yes, it must be a Friday Five!!)  They encourage you to visit other blogs on the linkup, comment, share and engage!

My Friday Five topic  is:  Five Favorite Clothing Items

  1. Skirt Sports Gym Girl Ultra Running Skirt

The Gym Girl Ultra is long enough to cover but not too long.  The shorts underneath don’t ride up and the waist band is tight enough so the skirt doesn’t fall down (even with stuff in the pockets.) No chafing either. It has 2 pockets – one on each side. They are hidden under the skirt.  And they are big enough to fit your phone, key, fuel, etc. Plus, if you like to listen to music on the run, there is music port that allows you to run your headphone cord from your skirt pocket. And, it looks GOOD!

2. Skirts Sports Eclipse Tank Top

The Eclipse tank is loose-fitting but not too loose.  It is long enough so it doesn’t ride up.  It is very light and breathable.

3. Pro Compression Compression Socks or Calf Sleeves

Pro Compression socks are tight but not so tight that you can’t get them on. They protect your legs from small scratches, abrasions and nasty things like poison ivy on a trail. Compression technology has been proven to limit swelling. They allow you to wear skirts on those iffy days when you’d reluctantly wear tights or capris.

4. Nike Zoom Vomero 10 Running Shoes

These Nikes are light but they still seem supportive.  They have a soft wide toe box which is what sold them to me.  And the most important thing, they are comfortable for both long and short runs.  My feet do not hurt when I wear them.

5. Any Brand Baseball Cap

Hats keep my unruly hair out of the way. They keep the sun off my face and keep me dry when it is raining.

Happy Running! What are you favorite clothing items for running?

  1. I think becoming a Skirtsports Ambassador may have been a really bad thing for me. I caved & ordered the 261 Katherine top & the switzer capri. I really wish the sale had been a week earlier, because the capri would’ve been just perfect for Sunday’s race! And of course now I want the top in other colors and the sale is over. 😦

I really prefer visors to hats — I can pull my hair up into a high ponytail, which I like, as opposed to a low one, which allows a lot more flyaways.

But shhh! I also have quite a few Oiselle tops that I really, really like too.

And calf sleeves for during the race, compression socks for after.

  2. Love how loyal you are to your favorites! My running clothes are all over the map with the exception of socks and shoes – Thorlos Experia socks and New Balance 860 shoes. Although I am in the market for new shoes and may try something different since I didn’t care for the last version of my shoes. Happy Friday!

  3. I love running skirts in general – but I tend to like the cut of the Nike tennis skirts (pleats!!!) more than their running skirts. I recently bought the Skirt Sports Lioness skirt and love that one big time.

My other favorite running accessory used to be Sweaty Bands headbands, but then I cut my hair and with the layers, it flies all over unless I use hair spray with the headband, so now I’m wearing caps.

  4. Yay, for finding a shoe that works 🙂 I am still on that journey for a running shoe, but I really to walk in the Nike I purchased recently. I need to go somewhere and try more styles on.
    I always love your skirts!
Clothes aren’t working for me right now lol I love my Garmin 🙂

    • I tried them on at Fleetfeet and bought them. Then got a few more pairs for half the price online. I hope you find a comfortable pair – it’s so important for our feet.

  5. My favorites are Hoka One One Huakas and Oiselle Flyte tank tops. The Huakas are cushioned but not too cushioned like other Hokas and the Flyte tank is seamless-no no chafing!

  6. I like the Gym Girl Ultra Skirt too. Some brands are too long and this one feels just right. I just ordered the blue paisley print in your top right picture this week! I had a discount coupon. (I won’t pay full price!) We can be twins.

    • I agree. The Happy Girl & Jaguar are too long and the Jette or Lioness too short. The GGU is perfect. My rule is never pay full price on anything. Maybe we can all get that skirt for December.

  7. I love my running skirts–all of them. I’m not brand loyal…what can I say? I also love my Athleta leggings. They fit me just perfect. I also love their tanks. Socks–I don’t do compression, and I’m not loyal to any one brand for those either.

  8. You always look so nice when you run. I have never tried a skirt, I was afraid the hanging material would chafe. I have not tried running in compression socks, I wear them afterwards. They are not too tight to run in ?

      • Yes, only online. They are true to size but maybe a tad big. I wear a small. The skirts have attached compression shorts with 2 big pockets. They are great and soooo comfortable.

    • They are tight to get them on but once you have them on, you don’t even notice. I think it helps recovery.

No, skirts never chafe. Once I started wearing skirts, I couldn’t go back to shorts.

  9. I’m also a big fan of baseball caps but I also wear visors to race. My favorite clothing is Lululemon, but I am tempted by those Skirt Sports prints. They are really cute.

    • I like Lululemon but they are sooo expensive. If you want to try SS, you can use the code SSMFK20 to get 20% off the regular price. Also check out their sale stuff.
