Running on the Treadmill

I have never enjoyed running on the treadmill.  I have never been good at it.  It’s not just the boredom but I find it difficult

I run at a slower pace.  If I speed up, I feel like I will fall off.

I kinda run like this.

I have a shorter stride on the treadmill.  Otherwise, I feel like I will go off the front.

I do NOT look like this!

I get tired faster

I feel like this!

And they seem to run at different speeds.  The same speed on the treadmill at work feels SO MUCH FASTER than the one at PT.  Is that possible???

I could go on and on about my treadmill difficulties.

In the past, I have only used the treadmill when I could not run outside (rain, snow, etc.) Well, now  it’s the only place I can run.

Things will have to change!!!!

PT guy J remarked that on Monday, my stride was too short and my gait was choppy. “You must be nervous because of your ankle. We’ll have to work on that.”

Only part of  my problem was related to  the injury. How can I explain that I suck as a treadmill runner!

Happy Running!  Anyone else have treadmill issues?

  1. Yes! Like you I find it difficult to run at my outside pace. I don’t feel like I’ll fall off, it just seems harder. My personal trainer explained that’s because when we run outside’ we’re always making adjustments due to terrain, etc.

  2. I hate the treadmill. I have to use it because of babysitting issues, but I much rather run outside.

I do find it more difficult, because you have to balance yourself as well as focus on running. I also think that mine runs fast. The 10 minute mile on the treadmill is much harder than the 10 minute mile outside.

I will always choose running outside over running on the treadmill when I can. Even if it is bad weather outside.

  3. I don’t like them at all. I feel horribly constrained on one, and feel that if I drift from dead centre I’m going to fall off the sides. No ground feel, no air motion, no feedback. I did 1 hour run while we had snow over the winter, because I’d missed several runs during marathon training and figured that any miles would be better than none – but hated every second of that hour and won’t do it again in a hurry.
They’ve got their place. They are more even and forgiving than outside running, and if that’s what it takes, that’s the thing to do.

  4. recently purchased the 1200i model treadmill from Lifespan fitness and I have used this treadmill for about two weeks now. I am very pleased with the treadmill. I particularly enjoy the layout of the treadmill. It has a perfect size console, depicting the information very clearly. It is almost overwhelming that some treadmills have humungous dashboards in front of you when you are running. The LCD screen is very clear and easy to read.,
