It’s that time of the month…
time to join up with Coco & Deborah for their ultimate coffee date.
1.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that I starting knitting socks when I broke my ankle in 2012.
Then I started again during the pandemic
And then 3 years later, I broke my LEFT foot. LOL
I started knitting socks again but this time I bought extra yarn!!
2.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that when I got my first x-ray on my foot, I asked to see the x-ray. The doctor asked why? I said to post on my blog. He replied I’ll show it to you next time.
So here it is:
The most interesting thing about this x-ray was the screws from my previous ankle surgery. I knew there were 4 screws on one side but not going in different directions?!
3. Over coffee…
I’d tell you that normally I trained for a half marathon with a 12 week plan.
Of course, when I ran a half marathon every month (as planned), I just recovered between races.
After NO running for 5 weeks, I only had 9 weeks before the Brooklyn Half Marathon.
As a result, I had to come with my own training plan (by modifying a 6 week plan):
Plans are meant to be ignored: week 1- 2, 2, 2, 4; week 2 – 4, 3, 2, 6; week 3 – 2, 4, 3, 8
But I think it’ll enable me to finish the race.
The question remains… do I want to just finish or cancel and run it next year instead??
4.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that as you know it’s been killing me not to race and I have had to miss quite a few that I’ve paid for…
I probably shouldn’t race at all before Brooklyn…
Check out these races on my spring schedule:
-
- 04-15-23 – Helderberg to Hudson Half Marathon
- 04-16-23 – Delmar Dash (5m)
- 04-22-23 – Bacon Hill Bonanza 5k or 10K
- 04-30-23 – Sasha’s Super Hero 5k
- 05-07-23 – Tropicool 5k
- 05-13-23 – Prospect Mountain Run
- 05-18-23 – CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge (3.5m)
A recovering runner dilemma…
5.Over coffee…
I’d tell you that this coming month I’ll be working in NYC for the last time this year.
(Yes, I work all day but evenings are for running, sightseeing, friend meet-ups and Broadway shows..)
The worker who has been out sick has returned. I should now only to going to NYC for fun/races.
+Over coffee…
I’d tell you that once my foot healed, I decided to again participate in the Freihofer Training Challenge. This year for the first time, not a a runner, but as a mentor.
It’s a great way to meet new people, give back to the sport, get back in shape (and receive a 12 week free gym membership).
I plan to mentor with the beginner group on Mondays, maybe some Wednesdays too.
Happy Running! What’s new with you? Any signs of spring where you live? Any races coming up? Please share.
It’s Friday so I’m also linking up with bloggers, Me (My First 5K and More), Running With Attitude, Run Laugh Eat Pie, Runs with Pugs, and Zenaida!
So Join in!
And don’t forget to link back to your hostesses and visit some other bloggers.
Those socks contain lots of memories! Have fun being a mentor this year. Hope you’re able to run all the races on your calendar without any issues.

Fingers crossed for no more injuries. but I’m pretty sure I’ll keep it simple and only run Brooklyn.

Yikes, you’re much braver than me for doing a long distance race so soon, but go for it! You know your body better than anyone else 🙂 I’ve been a knitter most of my life (made my first sweater when I was 14), but I’ve never attempted socks or mittens (but have made a lot of wrist warmers in recent years).

I love socks before they are so portable… I can take them in my purse…
After missing THREE long distance races, I am ready…but it’s only to finish not race it.

Can you use the races as training miles? I would skip the half marathon on 4/15 and use the rest for training miles. If you feel up to it, you could do walk run for Brooklyn. It’s a really fun race.

I definitely plan to do Brooklyn… have train tix and hotel. And yes I am DNSing the April one…I usually do the local races as training runs but this year because of my foot, I may skip them.

I love that you’ve signed up to be a mentor!
I’m glad to read you’re planning to skip next weekend’s race. You’ll definitely be able to do Brooklyn. As for the other races, you know best what your body can tolerate. Good luck!

Not sure we really know best but most likely this will be a rebuilding year…

I’ve never learned how to knit but I love to see what other people knit. Nice job on the mentoring! It’s so rewarding and I love to see the progress in the new runners. I would have asked for my x-ray too. I always like to see things like that for myself, just because it’s all fascinating to me.

I agree… I love to see how beginning runners improve and can run a 5k. Race day will be exciting.

All of those socks will always have a special significance to you. Hope you don’t “need” to knit anymore !

Whenever I see those xrays with all the hardware, it makes me wonder if there’s any plan at all or do the orthos just randomly insert screws and hope for the best, lol? Glad yours is holding tight. Your foot is so slender!
I don’t know how I feel about doing a long distance race so soon after a stress fracture, but go you! You never fail to amaze me.

The screws do look crazy.
Not a stress fracture. A tiny break and it’s fully healed. So far so good.

So how is everything feeling? Does your foot seem completely back to normal? It seems like if everything feels good, you’re on track for the Brooklyn half. It is a bummer to miss the other races, but I have a feeling you’ll keep yourself busy between now and then!

You are diving right back into running — love that you are mentoring for Freihofer.
Bummer on the NYC works trips coming to an end. Mine have fizzled out too.

I have one 5k on my radar but my guess is due to circumstances it’s not gonna happen. We’ll see.
As you always say, you can walk the half. Not that you would. 🙂

I decided not to run the half and probably none of those races. Concentrating on those long runs for now. 10 on tap for next weekend.

It’s already summer lol!
Your ankle looks like my ankle! And yes, my screws are going in different directions.
I love that you will be a mentor! You will be amazing!

loving the socks! even the ugly ones. i don’t know how to knit!
personally I wouldn’t do a long distance after healing up, but I’d probably do the shorter ones just to get back in the game. but obviously you should do what you want to do!
love that you are going to be a mentor for a beginners group!

Normally I would start back with a 5k but with the race hotel train all planned I just can’t waste any more money. I’ll be slow. I think I can do it.

How exciting you’ll be running the Brooklyn Half Marathon! I know you will enjoy it and make the best of it. I wish I could knit. I did learn to crochet when I was in 4th or 5th grade but doubt I can do it now.

I don’t knit complicated stuff lol. It’s relaxing.
Yes. I can’t wait to race again.
