No Running, No Races.
Working, drinking lots of wine (kidding).
But I did volunteer at a 10k yesterday.
Last Week:
- Started the week (Sunday) by brunching with my running friends (The storm postponed it from Saturday.)
Then I took my first outdoor walk since I broke my foot. I drove to UAlbany because I knew the path would be clear.
- Taught remotely (Tues-Fri)
- Rode my stationary bike every day (binge watching Ginny & Georgia)
- Went for a few more walks (Mon, Tues, Thurs)
- Signed up with a friend for our 3rd year at the Lake George Hike-a-thon
- Had Indian food with a former co-worker (I have lots more free time when I can’t run.)
- Hosted mah jongg (postponed from last Friday evening).
- Volunteered at the 10K that I had signed up to run. It was a very cold snowy morning but so many runners did show up. I worked at packet pick-up. When I was done, I drove to where my friends were running, walked a bit and then went out to brunch with everyone.
This Coming Week on the Run–
The same boring routine (daily walks and stationary bike rides) with an added hair appt and:
- Traveling to NYC on Saturday to support my local running friends who are running the NYC Half Marathon, visiting the expo and meeting up with a few bloggers.
- Cheering and spectating my first race ever on Sunday (and then returning home a day earlier than planned.)

It is kind of funny how much more free time you have when you’re an injured runner. Cleaning house was not how I spent my time, tho! :p I’m glad to see you are increasing your activity. Hopefully, you’re nearing the finish line on this injury!

That is my hope. Bones heal on their own schedule. Fingers crossed for speed healing.
But that meme is funny. But it may not actually be true.

I am happy read you are out walking and using your bike. We do have a lot more time when we are not running. It is nice to volunteer at races sometimes and see things from the other side. Looking forward to seeing you!

It’s important to volunteer. Most runners do not. Because we want to run.
See you soon.

You are being such a good sport while you are not running. This too shall pass, and you’ll be out there running again. Way to focus on what you CAN do. Have so much fun spectating the NYC half!

I’m not sure about being a good sport but I’m trying to stay in shape.
I’ll be hard to watch a race that you really want to run.. But better than staying home

Hahaha, that meme is so true!! I’m glad you were able to get involved with the races even though you couldn’t run. It’s fun to be on the other side too! That’s great you are able to go for walks (I know, a bit boring). You do not have to wear a boot? Just a supportive shoe?

It’s important to be on the other side but honestly it’s more fun to run the race.
Yes luckily I can walk without pain and without a boot… just wearing a running shoe.

Well, you’re definitely keeping busy- I’m sure that’s making the time go by faster. It’s nice of you to go cheer everyone on in NYC next weekend! And I’m glad you’re able to get out for walks…. that helps SO much. Hang in
there.

Yes. I’m very glad I can walk
Well cheering wasn’t the plan.

I admire you for volunteering at the race you were supposed to run, especially since the weather was less than ideal. I would have been tempted to stay home and pout. 😉
Oh my gosh, I love that injured runner meme. LOL

Oh I was tempted but I know how important volunteers are to a race.

I know it’s not an easy time for you, but I’m glad you’re making the best of the situation. It’s especially nice you’re volunteering at a race…we all know those races that we love would not be possible without the non-runners (of the day).

I know. And I only volunteered because I couldn’t run. Sad truth.

ah, yes, the clean house of an injured runner! And the re-organized closet 🙂 I usually do that. Hang in there Darlene. Sending healing vibes. I’m very impressed that you volunteered at the race in that weather! Kudos to you 🙂

I knew the crazy runners (like me last year) would go to the race so I did too.
I’d been cleaning out closets…

You manage to stay busy even when you’re not running. 🙂
I know you’ll have FOMO at the race next weekend but you’ll also have some fun meeting up with blogger friends, so there’s that.

You know I say “You rest when you’re dead.”
It’s always fun to be in NYC but it’s not how I planned it. I’ll get to run it next year.
It’ll be tricky trying to spot everyone among 25,000 runners.

Oh, you are keeping busy! I love your new shoes and brunch and a shamrock shake! I had a shamrock mcflurry, and that was lovely.
I also loved that you volunteered since you couldn’t run. that’s a great way to make it happen.

Thanks. You know I’d rather be running.
Shamrock McFlurry yum.

Yay for volunteering – I really think all runners should give back by volunteering. I know being an injured runner is a struggle but I think you did a good job of keeping busy.

Yes. I’m trying. Nothing replaces running though.

LOL on that meme – when else would we have time to clean?
Nice that you were able to volunteer at the race and see your friends. It’s not the same as racing but can be a lot of fun.
The 2 mile walk seems like a lot — and a good sign that your foot is healing.

Foot feels fine to walk because the break is on the side. I hope it’s healing.
Yes volunteering was fun. Not as much as racing but better than staying in bed.

Glad you’re able to get some walking in. I’ve not taken my running kit on holiday for the first time in forever but I’m making sure I’m getting in more walking to make up for it …

Exactly, because I can’t run, I’m walking more.
