It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
I do wish there was some green where I live..
Hopefully by my next Runfessions…
Anyway…
1. I runfess…
Last month I admitted that I was INTENTIONALLY (my word for 2022) signing up for a lot of races. But that I was skipping a half marathon in March (because I did not get into the NYC Half Marathon that I entered through the lottery.)
Instead I signed up for two five local five mile races: Electric City (March 12) and Shamrock Shuffle (March 27):
and a shorter (5.8M) race in Central Park (on April 10.)
2. I runfess…
I was offered a charity bib for the NYC Half Marathon (on March 20). I would not have had to raise money but I would still have had to pay the entrance fee ($130) and for my travel and accommodations.
I had four friends running this race and I came very close to accepting her offer.
I even considered skipping the Shape race and using my hotel & travel fees for this one instead.
In the end, I did not. I had already run THREE half marathons and been in NYC twice… yada yada.
4. I runfess…
As a mentioned in a previous post, I ran all my three half marathons under the time I would need to run a NYC big race (NYC HM, Brooklyn HM or NYC Marathon) in 2023,
However, I’m not sure that they are still offering guaranteed qualifying times for the NYC HM and it’s in March. I will not be 70 until May 9.
Hence, the lottery again for 2023 or….
Thanks to Deborah, I realized that I could run the NYC HM virtually this year and automatically gain entry into 2023 ($85 instead of $130 and no travel or hotel needed).
And you get a medal!
It’s virtual so I could do my normal 10 mile long run (in preparation for my April 16 half marathon) and if needed, walk the extra miles.
5. I runfess….
What was I thinking? Running 13.1 miles for fun!!!! In March!!!
I had planned to run a local 4 mile race on March 19 and signed up to volunteer at an expo (to promote the Freihofer 5k) on March 20…
Luckily, I never signed up for that local race and I was able to convince a running friend to run most of those 13.1 miles with me!
But Never again!
Happy Running! Anything to runfess this month? Have you done any virtual races lately? Have you ever run a virtual Half Marathon? Run any St Patrick’s Day themed races this year? Please share.
It’s Friday so I’m also linking up with bloggers, Me (My First 5K and More), Running With Attitude, Run Laugh Eat Pie, Runs with Pugs, and Zenaida!

Nope, no virtual halfs — or races, for that fact, in a long time. I briefly considered Icebreaker this weekend but that was before I got sick. I’ll still be signing up for races last minute anyway, but looking at the weather I’m glad I decided against it.
I have a few I’m eyeing for next month. We’ll see how it goes.

Too bad about getting sick. Weather doesn’t deter me obviously but 5ks are hard when you are training for halfs. I will run them because I’ve signed up for so many. The weather forecasts are rarely accurate. They predicted rain last Saturday too and it was perfectly dry.

I wish I lived closer (MUCH closer) and I’d do the NYC virtual to get in for next year. Virtual halfs are a much different ball game than the shorter distances…but they’re not impossible. Since I’ve shaken-off my music co-dependence (while running), I’ve realized anything is possible with enough grit and determination, right? 😉

Hope one year you do fly into NYC and do a race. I am not co-dependent on music either… sometimes I listen to podcasts… my preference is a race and chatting with others… It keeps my mind off quitting

I do not recall running any virtual halfs. Sounds dreadful. I have no clue how people do virtual full marathons. I suppose I’ve done many many marathon-training runs longer than 13.1 so I suppose a virtual half or full is totally doable, but still.

I thought of that. I have run longer runs. Still it was unpleasant.

I am super glad that I did the virtual as well. We are going to have a blast next year and it will be here before we know it. I must not have signed up for a medal. That’s okay I will settle for the real one next year. You have a great spring race line up!

Maybe I don’t get a medal either. Lol. Not sure. I paid for virtual with confirmed entry. I’ll let you know.
We have a lot of races here in the spring.

I did the Detroit half as a virtual for BibRave in 2020 and vowed never again. Good for you for getting it done! I would love to run the NYC Half at some point. Maybe I’ll take my chances with the lottery next year.

Yes. I said never again too. Yes. Enter. You may get in since you don’t live in NY.

You are such a race fanatic! Yay on NYC. I guess that means you’ll be running with Deborah next year!

I was briefly considering virtual London but you don’t get a guaranteed entry so NOPE. Glad that you did that one! See you next year for the race. I still have to qualify but I can get a number via Alexandra’s Playground, too.

I ran the 2019 Marathon but we didn’t meet… hope to meet you next year in NYC.

But wait! Aren’t you glad you did that virtual half? It was worth it in the end, right? Now you’re automatically in to the 2023 race.

I believe so. Yes. It wasn’t fun but I’m glad I did it.

HA! I’m not sure what happened to me, but yeah I signed up for back to back races impulsively, so yeah, I get you…

No Virtual Halfs, but you knew that. I think the longest virtual I did was Amelia Island 12K with Elizabeth or Kim’s BIX. But those were with people so fun runs

Well, you know the reason that I did this one…
