No big Heat wave. No races. I did complete my last long run before my half marathon.
However, my trip to the New York Botanical Gardens and the Sunflower field were the highlights of the week.
Last Week:
- Monday – #nevermissamonday. After work, I had time to kill before my Freihofer group run so I drove to see the sunflower field. Due to our hot, wet summer, it wasn’t as impressive as last year but still awesome. ❤ sunflowers
Today’s intermediate workout was 15 min run, 2 minutes hard, 2 minutes slow x 3, 15 minute run.
- Tuesday – I planned this months ago with my tennis friends – a day at the New York Botanical Gardens to see the Kusama exhibit. The forecast was for clouds and showers. Nope. Beautiful weather to hang with my friends. I knew I’d love Kusama’s art but it was even better than I expected…and there were so many flower gardens and water lily ponds. ❤
The NYBG is in the Bronx, right near Little Italy. So afterward we enjoyed a delicious Italian dinner before our long drive home.
- Wednesday – A busy work day at home but I was able to meet friends after work for a walk followed by either the SOAR run or Ice Cream run. Since the SOAR run was held where I was already walking, I chose these women to run with. (Definitely will do the ice cream run next Wed.)
- Thursday – Another busy work day at home but I was excited because Thursday evening is our weekly trail run/walk. Rain was in the forecast which is not unusual. I knew that I would go anyway since it was the last one (and I had perfect attendance.)
So it rained on and off all day, sometimes like a monsoon but it only drizzled during our run.
- Friday – Rest day and more rain this morning but also a Starbucks walk during lunch (since I was at the office) and another after work before mah jongg.
- Saturday – Long Run Day with 12 on my schedule. I was so happy to have company for this one. I ran all the miles with Sherry and bumped into the others on the rail trail or after at brunch.
- Sunday – Hope to get in a hike before the rains come.

Beautiful pics from the Botanical garden exhibit! Love going to those! The sunflowers here are slow to get started as well. I think September is peak month for them here.

Sunflowers are peak and don’t last long unfortunately.

Sounds like you had a great week. Love the sunflowers and the botanical gardens pictures! So pretty! Great job on your hot and humid 12 miler. Hopefully the weather for you HM will be better and it’ll feel like a breeze, relatively speaking.
I was planning to run the AF HM on 18 Sept in Ohio. Unfortunately, I got the dreaded e-mail last week that they have decided to cancel the in person race and make it virtual. I plan to run it virtually, for many reasons, even though I hate for my first HM to be on a solo, virtual run. Oh well, we play with the hand we are dealt.

Oh no. I’m so sad. I was hoping your first would be the real thing.
There will be other races. This has to end, right??

You had a very busy social calendar this week! Love, love, love the sunflowers! My daughter and I picked flowers at a U-Pick place and made a lovely bouquet with a sunflower as the centerpiece. Great workouts this week including that 12 miler! Sounds like you’re ready for the half!

This humidity has been so tough. Even walking at my moms, the bugs made it not as enjoyable as it could be!
I really wanted to see the Sunflowers but alas just no time. We’ll have our own adventure, finally, this week!

I even got bites wearing bug spray.
Awesome. Glad you can fit your vacation in.
I’m excited about some beach time next weekend.

I’m going to need this break because it’s going to continue to be hectic in the near future. Probably for a long time.

So many beautiful sunflowers!! It’s been years since I went to the Botanical Garden and was hoping to go this Summer with my mother. Maybe once it cools off we can go. Nice job on running 12 miles!

We had a lot of rain last week, too, and this week it’s just nasty humid. We soooo lucked out on Sunday with great weather for our century.
