Ultimate Coffee Date for September

It’s that time of the month…

Starbucks BEEN THERE Series BTS--New Hampshire (NH) 14oz Mug NIB

still optimistic for Oct 2-5 vacation

to join up with Coco & Deborah for their ultimate coffee date.

1.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I said that I was over Virtual races.  I hadn’t run one since May.

I asked for a refund for both of my September Half Marathons and asked for a deferral for the August one BUT my October race has gone VIRTUAL with no refund or deferral option.

So I guess I’m doing another virtual race. Reluctantly. I really don’t care about getting a half-zip or medal when I have not run a “real” race.

How do you feel about this?  Do you want swag from “virtual” races?

2.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I was okay when I heard that Skirt Sports was going out of business. I have made quite a few friends in past years by being an Ambassador and I have enough skirts to last (my lifetime).

As you may have heard, the company was bought by Sarah R, the owner of the ZOOMA race series.

I ran ZOOMA Bermuda last February and met Sarah.  This race was one of the best race experiences (and I have run a lot of them lol).

And there were quite a few Skirt Sports skirts at the race.

Perfect match, right?

Have you run a Zooma race recently? If so, did you enjoy it? Do you wear Skirt Sports?  How do you feel about its future?

3.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that related to the above 2 updates, I signed up for another virtual race. I signed up with two other Skirt Sports ambassadors…

and it’s a ZOOMA race.

virtual swag

Have you done any virtual races lately?  How about any ZOOMA virtual races?

4.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that although gyms in NYS were allowed to open, my free gym has not.

It’s not that I was a frequent gym goer but I do worry about when winter comes.  I do not own a treadmill or a stationary bike.

Have you gone to a gym yet?

5.Over coffee…

I’d tell you that I have unearthed my old bike.

 last ridden in 2012!?

You won’t see me at any duathlons.  I will be just be a casual biker. So far, I have only ridden around the neighborhood.

I need to get a bike rack for my car if I want to ride it on any of the bike paths. But it turns out bike racks are like toilet paper in March …None to be found 😦

How often do you bike?  How far?

It’s Friday so I’m also linking up with Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five linkup! Join in! Don’t forget to link back to your hostess and visit some other bloggers.

Happy Running! Got anything to spill? Share it here!

  1. Hah, you are right that bike racks are hard to find. And pricey too. I hope your gym opens by winter, but otherwise you can just stock up on winter running gear and hope it’s not too snowy. 😉 Since I only signed up for the Scooby Doo virtual run for the swag, I do like that swag. I also got the t-shirt from the Lawyers Have Heart race when it went virtual to have something to remember it by. I need to remember to defer my Richmond Half entry ….

  2. I still have two virtual races left on my calendar, but I must admit I’m feeling pretty “meh” about completing them.

I haven’t done a Zooma race since Sarah took over as owner – I’ve heard it’s much improved so I’m keeping my fingers crossed to run the Cape Cod race next year (hoping things will be in-person by then!).

  3. You’re doing Amelia Island! I was contemplating Cape to Coast. Haha! The only virtual I’ve done all this time is the Run Across IL, and only because Zenaida wanted to do it as a team. I hope your gym is able to open for winter. We cancelled our membership so we’re done.

  4. As long as I run the distance for the virtual race I don’t mind collecting the swag. That’s a bummer that the October race didn’t offer a refund. I was supposed to do the Philly Love Run 1/2 marathon in October and they did the same thing – no refund, but you could run the race virtually or defer to March 2021 so I deferred.

    • I love that you can defer. I did that recently. Unfortunately many are not allowing that.

I want to do the Love Run again. I ran it in the rain. Not so fun.

  5. I am with you, Darlene. I don’t like it when the only option for a canceled race is a virtual one. I did one virtual half this spring and it just felt like a training run, but I felt as though I might as well get SOMETHING for my registration fee, so I did it.

I have gone back to my gym for Body Pump class. I feel safe. We wipe down the equipment before and after the class with disinfectant and wear masks before and after. I don’t hang around at the gym before or after class or shower there, though. I usually try to limit my treadmill time to the bare minimum, even in the winter. Last winter was mild. I didn’t need the treadmill at all. Keeping my fingers crossed for this winter!

  6. Woot!!! Another biker chick is emerging 😉 YOU may have seen that I just did a virtual “race” this morning…but I biked it.Oddly, it just felt like the right thing to do, and certainly gave it a new twist. Besides, it was for my favorite race…and I just could not (literally and figuratively) do this race as a virtual “running” event.

  7. I’m sad that I missed the Skirt Sports clearance sales, but I hope it’ll still be awesome!

I just got a notice in the mail that my (former, I guess) gym has gone bankrupt so I’m really sad. :[ I need to build a home gym, but everything’s so exorbitantly expensive these days!

  8. Just because you signed up for race doesn’t mean you have to run it (virtually) if you don’t feel like it. Especially if you don’t even care about the swag. But you do you.

Never enjoyed biking, but am glad I have a stationary bike and treadmill (and hoping the treadmill can survive more than its current 20 years).

    • Have you biked lately? You may want to try it. I don’t love it. Just a new form of exercise outdoors. It’s tough esp on the hills. But I guess you can adjust a stationary and treadmill for hills too. I just hate being stuck indoors.

Even if you don’t do the race, you still get the swag. I never even post my times. I will do the half because we’re doing it together. It will be fun. But not as exciting as a race of course.

  9. I’ve only run two virtual races so far. Both were only to raise money for charities, with all of the money going to the charities and no swag. I’m running a virtual 5k this month that’s actually completely and they said the first 150 people to sign up get swag but didn’t say what it is. Plus they have age group awards. That was a no-brainer to me to sign up. I ride my bike once a week for about an hour or sometimes 75 minutes.
