Runfessions for August

Runfessions

It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice

I cannot believe that August is almost over.  Where did the summer go??

1. I runfess…

As soon as I finished the OneNY 1000k Challenge, I stopped looking at my walking mileage.  I have even shortened or skipped walks.

No surprise there.

0 miles on Sundays now

Anyone only motivated when you have to log your miles?

2. I runfess…

As soon as my foot pain seemed to subside with Topos (3mm heel drop), I immediately bought another pair of Topos (0 mm heel drop).  My Neuroma pain completely disappeared.

I had planned to return the first pair. I did not.

Topos Magnify ❤ (this color was on clearance lol)

Do you buy new shoes frequently? Do you return shoes or keep them?

3.I runfess…

As much as I LOVE racing, I don’t plan to run a race that that has all those COVID19 restrictions.  I mean no water, no food, wave starts, altered course, etc.

Helderberg to Hudson HM – nope, deferred to 2021

I’d rather wait and spend money on a real race…whenever that may be.

Are you signing up for races (with restrictions) this fall?

4. I runfess…

I planned to start biking but even before I brought my bike up from the basement, I ordered a biking skirt.

Clothes are important, right?

Anyone else agree that you need the right clothes for each sport?

5.I runfess…

I recently completed a hike that was on my bucket list.  But it seemed a lot shorter and easier than I anticipated.  The view was nice but not awesome.

Vroman’s Nose in MIddleburgh, NY

I think I got spoiled with hiking in the Adirondacks.

Cat Mountain in Bolton Landing, NY

Do you like hiking? Do prefer easy or challenging hikes?

It’s Friday so I’m linking up with Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five linkup! Join in! Don’t forget to link back to your hostess and visit some other bloggers.

Happy Running! Anything to runfess this month? Please share.

  1. I wouldn’t mind those race restrictions, but would be irritated by the inevitable people who wouldn’t follow the rules. 😛 I have a cycling skirt from SkirtSports but have never worn it. I always reach for my shorts instead.

    • I never biked and then SS went out of business. I love the skirt. It has pockets!!

I do not want to pay the same price for a race that is missing most things except people.

  2. Well I definitely think you need the right clothes! Shop away. I am motivated to log more walking miles when I do the runbet challenges. I think i will start another for the fall. So glad to hear that your foot pain has subsided! Happy running and walking

    • I am tempted to do another challenge – this one does include the bike. Esp since there are no races to spend $$ on. But I do need biking equipment.

  3. Nah, if going from 3 to 0 mm drop means no pain I would not touch the 3mm drop shoes again. I definitely have a cheap streak but I’m happy to spend $ for no pain. Now that our virus rates have dropped the race companies around here are starting to make another push for in person racing, so it will be interesting to see what comes of that. There’s a slim chance that my 2 October races could end up being real instead of virtual.

    • No real races here (just one altered one). I am now alternating with the 3 and 0. Surprisingly, the 3 drop has less support so I am using for shorter runs and the 0 for long runs.

      GL with your October races.

  4. I don’t mind some of the Covid restrictions, cupless water stations for one. But races so different from there to here.
Yay on pain free running. I need to get a new pair of Brooks Ghost as I already have nearly 100 miles on them and I’m in love.
    I blinked and missed summer

  5. I am not sure if I would want to do a race with all those restrictions. On the one hand, its nice that they can still offer races safely. However, is it worth it? I haven’t seen any in-person options nearby yet so it hasn’t really been something I’ve considered.

  6. I agree….all the COVID restrictions are a bit over-the-top for an outdoor activity. I respect why they have them, and I suppose they have to be strict about them, but I don’t think ALL of them are necessary. Speaking of biking and the necessity of proper clothing…I recently acquired two new jerseys (I only had one before), and a couple pairs of shorts with the side pockets. I still cannot bring myself to wear the padded shorts. UGH. That may change with my current biking thing LOL I do have a belt that works well for holding my phone (but bounces all the time for running), so that’s a win!

    • I know why they have them but I think they need to reduce the cost of the race. I know why they don’t – they’ve lost enough money this year. It’s a no win situation. I have the padded shorts – very weird. feels like wearing a diaper but you can ride longer without a sore butt.

  7. I agree I don’t think I’d have any interest in running a race with that many restrictions. I’m trying to stay hopeful that the second half of 2021 will bring back normal racing.

I’m definitely more motivated to log my miles when I have a challenge. I need to find another challenge soon!

  8. So…we did a 5K last Sunday. There were restrictions but it wasn’t bad. It was a tiny race in the woods on a crushed gravel trail. There was pre-packaged food at the end (really good sandwiches, chips and fruit), along with bottled water and water at the one aid station. (Don’t know why you really need an aid station for a 5K anyway.) You had to wear masks before and after but not during the race. It felt like a real race.

  9. I don’t have any cycling skirts but I have a pair of padded shorts. I don’t love them but yep, they do the job!

I’m signed up for a fall race but I may just do it virtually. We’ll see.
