Runfessions – April

It’s that time again. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice

I runfess…

I STILL can’t seem to motivate myself to run in the morning before work. It’s not that I sleep in but I am lazy. I sit around watching the Today show, eating breakfast and reading email/blogs. Then all of a sudden, it’s time to go to work.

This would have been definitely more pleasant at 6 am than 5 pm.

How do you early morning runners do it?

I runfess…

I did not do a single uninterrupted long run for this weekend’s half marathon.  I think my longest run was 6 miles.  I know that I should but racing is more fun.

5k + 6 mi = 9 mi

Anyone have success doing it my way?  Am I crazy?  (Don’t answer that. it was rhetorical.)

I runfess…

I have been going to the gym at least once a week but I just rush in, do all the machines and rush out.  I could also use the treadmill or the bike.

at least the gym is near Starbucks

I should also take a class (spinning, boot camp, Zumba) before my free membership elapses, right?

I runfess…

I am actually enjoying my shorter races.  I used to feel pressured when I ran them.  I felt like I should try to PR.  But now I am not even trying to run fast.  I’m still having decent finish times and even winning some age group awards. In my most recent race, my slowest pace was the end of the race.

Once my May 21 half is over and I have a break in my training, I should consider trying for a 5K PR.

I runfess…

I am looking forward to 8 day vacation in Naples, FL with my tennis friends.  It’s always a fun time to unwind, go to the beach and have some quality girl-time.

We are going 2 weeks early because one of the ladies is expecting a grandchild. This, however, means missing some of my favorite races. Serious FOMO will be happening.

I runfess…

My half marathon on May 21 is on a flat course and it is the same course where I did PR back in October.  So I should train better than I have for this weekend’s fun one.  Will I?

Well, there’s my Florida trip and then there’s a 5k on May 13 and another possible one on May 14.

Summer Smith Memorial 5k

As Brittany says; Oops, I’ve done it again.

I runfess…

I used almost always run by myself.  I actually enjoyed the solitude and being alone with my thoughts.  I even stopped listening to music.

Well lately, I’ve gotten spoiled.  I have my training group peeps on Monday, STEM volunteers on Wed, Alyssa on Thurs and there are my races on the weekend.

It’s so much more fun running with someone else.

Now it feels weird when I am alone.  I’ve started listening to podcasts.  It’s my virtual running partner talking to me (and I don’t have to talk back…but I can..).

Anyone else prefer to run with a friend than solo?

I runfess…

I am planning to wear a top to this weekend’s half marathon that I have not worn before.  Judy says it is comfortable so I will believe her.  (But I do plan to wear a sports bra underneath!!)

Anyone wear new unworn items to a big race??

Happy Running! Anything to runfess this month?

  1. If I don’t run in the morning, it doesn’t get done! But I just get up extra early, drink my coffee, catch up on blogs, and then go run!

I always wear a sports bra under my tops no matter what kind of top it is. These girls cannot move.

  2. I wear unworn items all the time to races …guess I like living on the edge 🙂

Naples, Fl for a girls trip will be such fun! Love it down there! And since you’re bummed about missing some of your favorite races back home, find a couple down there to race …surely they’ll have at least one 5k going on while you’re there!

  3. I hope you have a great time in Naples! Sounds like a great getaway! You do run a lot of races but you are having fun so why not! I am an early runner you just have to do it- that’s it! 🙂

  4. I run very early in the morning, and I will say that while I don’t always want to, especially when my alarm goes off, I’m glad I did get the run in, and I usually am pretty energized for the morning. I’ve tried to run in the evening with a couple of friends who like to run at that time, but I just felt horrible – my body was too aware of what we were doing. I need to sneak up on a run before my body is fully awake, LOL.

  5. In summer when it’s too hot to run later, I’ll be out running at 5:30. Right now I’m not in that mode at all so it’ll be a tough change. I have everything laid out, I know what my workout is, I skip coffee until after and just go! Naples is always a good idea!

  6. I am an early bird runner/exerciser. Love my early morning workouts! I’ll be doing a half marathon a week from Saturday, Indy Mini, on the least training I’ve ever had for a big race due to arthritis in my knee. But that’s okay, I’ll get through it then I’m focusing on shorter distances. I think I’m ready to give up the title “distance junkie” and focus on some 5Ks and 10Ks from here on out and keep my knees safe!

  7. Nooo! You’re not supposed to wear anything new on race day. The secret to running early is no coffee or internet until AFTER I’ve run. If I started in a Facebook or blogs, I’d never get out the door.

  8. I like running solo and with a friend. There are advantages to both 😉 I love my early morning runs…but, I don’t seem to need as much sleep as others LOL I do best when I have all my gear laid out and waiting for me, though

  9. I will probably get back to running back in the morning when it’s not too dark outside – it’s tough for me because I start work at 7 am! I love getting it out of the way during the week.

I’m starting to feel like I’m missing out on running with others…I really do prefer being solo and doing my own thing. I haven’t tried listening to a podcast though!

Have a great time with your tennis friends in FL!

    • Yikes. & am. That’s tough. I too used to love getting it out of the way. But it’s easier to run with others after work. Decisions….

  10. Well I managed early morning runs for a week and it was great, then I managed a week of deep sleeps, which were also great but not good for running😁 Such is life!
