This week, the topic is: Gym/Workout Space

You have heard whine about how I DO NOT work out. So you are probably wondering why or how I was going to write this post.

I do not have a workout space at home.  My basement is a unfinished cellar full of my hubby’s junk. None of the other rooms are large enough to work out in (except for maybe the family room where my hubby’s hand is permanently attached to the remote.)

At my last job, there was a bike, treadmill and elliptical available behind the stage in the gym. And when the weather was so terrible that I could not possibly run, I did go there. and use them.

I have to pay to use the machines in the gym where I work now.  But I do have access to a free gym.

So here’s what there is:

  1.  Treadmill

2. Exercise Bikes and Elliptical Machines

3. Machines to work on your arms

4. Machines to work on your legs

5. Weights and all other kinds of cools things:

KettleBells

But here’s the problem:

Happy Running? Do you belong to a gym?  Or do you work out at home?

    • There’s just not time for it all so I have to prioritize. Working out comes last. I have bring different clothes and drive to the gym. Once I retire (if I ever), that will change. I will belong to the Y and I have friends to go with..

  1. I work at a university so I use the campus rec center which is free. It has amazing equipment and a lot of great classes. BUT I’m far less likely to do much more than utilize the indoor track unless I go to a structured class. Using the weight room bores me out of my mind. I’ll do it but I don’t look forward to it. Also, there are a lot of self-involved 18-19 year old guys showing off (so much bad form)in there which is tiresome after a while. 🙂

    • I agree. I would enjoy classes more. I do work as part of a university too. I’m sure I have access to their gym. But I need someone to push me into going.

  2. We’re all different and that’s what makes the world a beautiful place! If you don’t really enjoy going to a gym, don’t worry about it! You are obviously getting enough exercise running and playing tennis to stay in great shape! Heck …speaking of tennis, I used to play some years ago and it’s a darn good workout!

    • I don’t mind the gym. I just can’t find the motivation to get there. Working the upper body is a good thing, I think. Singles in tennis is a good workout. Doubles – not so much. A lot of standing and waiting. My friends also like to chat a lot and then we go out to dinner afterwards. It’s very social.

  3. My answer to your questions is all of the above! This year I’ve been really good about hitting the gym. Maybe because I’m waiting for my running mojo to grow back.

  4. I do belong to Planet Fitness but I also have all the weights I need at home to strength train. I haven’t been to PF in a couple months! It’s okay, it’s only $10 and it’s great to have as a back up in case the weather is crappy and I want to run on the treadmill.

  5. I workout at home. I went to a gym once in college. We had access to state of the art facilities. But I walked in and walked right out. Hah! I’m super self conscious about working out in front of others. Unless it’s free weight or bodyweight stuff. 🙂
