It’s Friday so I am linking up with three DC area bloggers Mar at Mar On the Run, Cynthia at You Signed Up For What?! and Courtney from Eat Pray Run, DC . Anyone can join with their own Friday Five post (yes, it must be a Friday Five!!) They encourage you to visit other blogs on the linkup, comment, share and engage!
My Friday Topic is Five Reasons I Bought the Apple Watch 2:
My hubby knows that I’m a geek and I like techie toys so he has been wanting to buy me the Apple Watch. I resisted last year for Christmas and my Birthday. It was ridiculously expensive and I didn’t Think that I really needed one.
My biggest need would eventually be a new GPS watch.
I love it and it still works. It’s also a conversation starter at races: “Wow! I’ve never seen one so big!!”
I’ve only been using it for races trying to extend its life. Otherwise, I use the Runkeeper app on my iphone if I am unsure of the distance.
After a stressful summer, I decided that if I ever got a job, I would reward myself with an Apple watch.
And I did get a job after 12 weeks of searching but was informed that a new and improved Apple watch was coming out in September. So I decided to wait.
And I am glad I did!
- The Apple Watch 2 has a GPS!!
I will probably still wear my old Garmin to races when I care about pace and time. But now, I don’t have to keep taking my iphone out of my pocket or race belt to see how far I’ve run.
2. The Apple Watch 2 is water-resistant and can be submerged up to 50 metres.
I won’t have to worry if it gets wet while running or splashed when out in the boat.
3. The Apple Watch is also a fitness tracker.
I won’t have to wear my watch and my Fitbit at the same time.
Plus I had to take out my iPhone in order to see how many steps I had many time during the course of each day. Very annoying.
4. The Apple Watch has a lot of cool features.
For example, it shows your heart rate.
There a mindfulness breathing app plus many other tools.
5. You can do so many tasks by just talking (to Siri.)
You can ask her to send or respond to a text, send an email …
…or even play songs, etc.
I only started wearing it yesterday so I will give you a more in depth review in a few weeks. But I think I am going to love it.
Anyone want to buy a year old Fitbit?
Happy Running! Anyone else own an Apple Watch?
I had no idea you were lusting over the Apple watch. So glad you got a new job and a new watch. A friend has one and really loves it, but hers in the older model. Ha, love your comment about the Fitbit. I don’t track steps, so it has no appeal to me.

Not really lusting but my Garmin 205 may not last forever.

Since I don’t have an iphone, you know which watch I went with . . .

You may someday. I couldn’t live without it. That where I read blogs and write my blog.

Nope, that is one of the areas we save money on.

Since you are home, you probably don’t need it as much as I do. I would never post on FB, Instagram or my blog if I didn’t do it on my phone.

My blog I do mostly on the desktop. I have an ipod touch in addition to my phone because my phone really doesn’t do much, but I don’t have a contract for it and don’t get a new year every year. I think this is only my second ipod touch, but it could be my third. I do a lot of stuff on it.

Do you blog on your iPod? I don’t use mine. But I had many iPods and used them only for music. I used to use my camera for photos until I got an iPhone.

Well, an Ipod Touch is essentially an iphone without the phone capabilities. I use it more than I use my phone!
Since I take most of my photos with it, I use it to put the photos into the blog. I often reply to comments on it. Sometimes I do blog on it, mostly when I’m traveling (if I blog). Or sometimes just to finish up a blog.

True. That’s exactly why I got an iPhone. I didn’t want to carry two things all the time. I used even carry three – my ipod for music, my phone and my camera.

Yes, but I only pay about $30/mth- sometimes less. I’d hoped when I got a smartphone I wouldn’t need my iPod but it runs out of space & doesn’t take good photos. 😦

I pay about $100 more than that for both of our iphones but it takes photos that are as good as my camera. I upload my photos to Shutterfly or FB or the blog (and I could back it up to the Cloud) so I don’t worry about space but it has plenty.

I did just download the Amazon Photo app — now I just gottta get around to deleting stuff!

That would be too tempting.

Tempting in what way? It’s just another way to put your photos in the cloud (and is free with Amazon Prime, which reminds me I need to order some stuff . . . )

To order from Amazon. I don’t have Amazon prime either.

Best thing we ever did. We use the heck out of it — and watch movies, I listen to music sometimes, borrow books on my kindle. Totally worth it for us.
And I think Mr. Judy orders more than I do!
We actually order a lot of pet stuff on it, household stuff . . . very, very convenient — sometimes to the point of making Mr. Judy a hermit, I think!

I had it free when I worked at the law school. I never really used it.

Sounds like a pretty cool watch. I recently just got the Garmin 235 and love it. It has HR, fitness tracker, and smart notifications. I am still learning some of the features as well.

Tough decision. I almost got a better garmin.

I got the FitBit Blaze earlier this year, and while I’m not 100% in love with it, I’ll probably stick with it until I end up with a new Garmin simply because I don’t have an iPhone. Hopefully I love it as much as you love your Apple Watch!

It heard that the Fit Blaze was great. If I had bought a more expensive Fitbit I might not have gotten the Apple Watch.

I miss features from my old Garmin like intervals – which are very helpful to a run/walker like me!

I do walk but I don’t use the run/walk features of my Garmin. I just walk when I feel like it.

The vivoactive has the run/walk intervals.

I’m happy for you – my friends have the original Apple watch and love theirs. I don’t run with my phone except for big races, when I want people to be able to track me via Garmin connect), so I still need a Garmin for running. I think it’s amazing how many technological devices there are available for us runners right now…when I started running in 2009, the only thing I could find other than a Garmin was a Nike+ shoe pod and wrist band.

That’s what I had. The Nike + shoe pod. I thought it was great at the time.

Cool! My hubby has one, and he loves it!!! It is a very cool gadget 🙂
I am not taking the plunge, I like being able to program my own workouts into my watch lol so I need my Garmin for now.

I have to figure things out. I know that with the Runkeeper app, you can program workouts. I may still use my Garmin for races because I am comfortable with it and it is BIG and easy to read.

Wow this does look like a cool watch! I can’t believe you waited so long, the temptation would have gotten me!

I don’t wear my fitbit anymore either. It got old after 6 months. I wish Samsung would have a nice looking connected watch. I think they do but I haven’t checked it out recently.
I will be interested to know what you think of your Apple watch in 1 month !

The watch sounds great – well worth waiting for the 2nd edition!

I’m glad I waited. I used the Activity app today for the first time to track my run. It was great.

I have the original Apple Watch. I was bummed out that it didn’t have GPS. For my birthday this year, I asked for the Garmin 235. I want more stats. What can I say? I wish the Apple Watch 2 was out last year. But I’m not getting a new one yet.

I’m sure that the Garmin can do more. I don’t use intervals. The watch tracks heart rate, time, average pace, distance, lap pace. I still am figuring it out.

I’m definitely eyeing the Apple Watch 2! Looking forward to an update after you’ve worn it more!
