Runfessions January & Friday 5 (or 6)

It’s that time again.  The last Friday of the month. Time to get things off my chest with Marcia’s Runfessions at Marcia’s Healthy Slice
1. I runfess…
You how they say don’t go to the grocery store when you’re hungry.  Well, don’t go to Target after a long run when you are half frozen.

Well, at least it was on clearance and I had a cartwheel coupon.
2. I runfess…
Remember how I said I loved my FitBit because it made me walk more.  I used to try to get to 10,000 steps everyday.

last week

Well, the newness has worn off and now I pretty much only get 10,000 steps when I do a long run (like on Sat.).  I even forgot to put it on on Sunday but I didn’t move much anyway.
3. I runfess…
After all those holiday parties and Christmas cookies, I vowed to cut back and eat healthier (and save $) in January.  Besides when I go to Florida in a week, there will be a lot of eating and drinking going on with friends (and I will be going all out.)

monthly tennis ladies night out

I went out to dinner this past week three nights in a row. My bad.
4. I runfess…
I work several Saturdays during the year proctoring law school entrance exams.  Though I hate to work 6 days a week, I justify it by using this extra money for race entry fees.
Dates for 2015-16:
  • December 5, 2015 – EAU Palm Beach Half weekend
  • February 6, 2016 – Sarasota Music Half weekend
  • June 6, 2016.
  • September 24, 2016.
  • December 3, 2016
I just signed up for a fall half marathon.
Guess when?  Yup. September 24, 2016. At least, I had a 10% coupon code.
5. I runfess…
I have gotten spoiled by either running a race or having a running partner for part of all my long runs.  Thanks Judy!

This part Saturday was no exception.  I ran 6 miles by myself then Judy came to run the final 6 with me.  I usually run slower the second half of my runs so it works out fine.  However, it was so cold and windy and we were running uphill that I couldn’t hold the slower pace.  I wound up running the last 3 miles by myself. Sorry Judy!

I looked back at one point and couldn’t see Judy.

And for extra measure…

6. I runfess…
I can’t wait to leave the frigid Northeast and run in Florida.  I am excited for my half marathon…

or maybe it’s because I want to wear my latest running purchases? (Yes, Sunshine State, please warm up!)

Since it is also Friday, I am linking up with the three DC area bloggers Mar at Mar On the Run, Cynthia at You Signed Up For What?! and Courtney from Eat Pray Run, DC  for their Friday Five linkup.

Happy Running!  Anything to Runfess?

  1. My runfessions will be up tomorrow.

I am surprised we didn’t run into each other at Target! One of my runfessions has to do with cold weather running gear, although the truth is I really haven’t bought much new lately. Except gloves (which I’m loving).

Sometimes solo runs are great; I write about that for sunday’s post. Then again, I haven’t run longer than 6 miles since November!

  2. I hope you have good weather in Florida! I’ll be racing my first tri of the season there in March. I’m hoping it isn’t too hot by then. I won’t be acclimated at all and heat is my kryptonite for running.

  3. I am trying to cut back on spending this month (because of racations in January and again in February) and one place that I can’t let myself walk into? Target. They have too many good deals and cute things!!!

  4. I love your half marathon outfit. Very pretty skirt. I am counting down the days until our trip to Florida but in the meantime keeping busy with swimming, biking and the elliptical machine. It stinks to be recovering from an injury.

  5. I prefer Target over Walmart any day! I usually limit my trips to once per month. But you should see what’s in the buggy! Good luck in FL. I’m hoping you have perfect weather…not too hot! I love the skirt you picked out to wear!

  6. I’m running Cape Cod too, I’m so excited about it since I’ve never been! Have a nice time in Florida! I can never get out of Target without being way too much stuff, lol!

  7. I really think I’m getting worse about coat purchases than shoes and that is saying something! I love my puffer jackets, but NOT for running! #epicfail! I’ve fallen off the wagon on my fitbit steps too. I still have great motivation to get in 10,000 6x a week cause for every day I don’t I have to pay PACT an app $10. So when you have some skin in the game you try and get it done otherwise I wouldn’t.

  8. Had the same issue with the FitBit – when it was new, it was so novel and fun! But the novelty wore off pretty quickly and then I just felt like I was letting myself down every day I didn’t meet my “goal”, even though I knew I was cross training those days anyway. Good luck in Florida!

  9. It’s great you and Judy can do so many of your training runs together! I trained for my first 26.2 all by myself. It was fine (because I didn’t know any different), but since then I’ve had Barb. She’s a local running buddy who has become a great friend in general. We do most of our long runs together and a lot of short runs as well. And she’s always game for a road trip if I find a race 😉
